What is your dream piece of heavy equipment?

I have no doubt. I rented a John Deere with a 42" bucket once. Talk about a kid with a new toy. All Nationwide cared about was the deposit and the insurance. I'd never been on one before.

The guy who delivered it, took it off the trailer, left the key and drove off. Never asked me if I knew anything about operating it and I didn't enlighten him about my ignorance.

Right up there with sex for the first time ... well maybe not that good.

The missus never really liked it. Especially after I brought it off the hill and parked by the barn to wash it off. Does a nice job of ripping up grass in the turns.

A good trick to learn with and excavator is picking its self up in fron of the tracks and swing the hoe opposite the way you turn. thens et your self down and continue also easier on the undercarriage. I guess ive been raised up around equipment and now folks think im crazy because im a certified machinist and turned down several inside jobs in a heated and cooled shop to run heavy machinery Dads been an operator 46 years He started when he was 16 my older brother started when he was 12 and i got turned out on an excavator since i was 12. Its a nice feeling at the end of the day when you can look back and see what youve done.
For a week I was left to strip overburredn for a freinds boss with a 750 Komatsu with a 7 yard bucket, We gave away alot of topsoil, and several folks came in little single axle trucks hard to to convince them how big the bucket was lol.

Sounds like that ad where a guy in a pickup is stopped by a flagman and an excavator completely fills the bed in one shot. I wonder if the first time they filmed it, the operator over did it and dumped so much in the bed it came though the back window of the cab.

I was working in a quarry with my cousin one time and this older fella came down ther wanting a load of crusher run, I was on a D8K pusing top soil to my cousin in a 980 Cat with a 5 yard bucket. THis old man came down in a 68 Dodge half ton truck and said he wanted a load of Crusher run. My cousin told him to wait a minute and hed have the back hoe come down or the smaller 920 come down. the old man left and came back with our boss sayin we refused to load him. We explained that it was hard to load a short bed truck with a 15 foot wide 5 yard bucket. But he kept on callin us stupid so my cousin tried to get a little in the corner of his bucket and shake it out in the truck bed. Well the old man started yelling again tell ing him to just dump it, well Brandon throws the throttle wide open and dumps the load all at once the axles sat on the frame then the bed just came loose at the corners. I couldnt hep but laugh at how we tried to help him and he wouldnt quit till we overloaded his truck. Ever since then my cousin says he waits for a smaller machine to come load him.

Some people have absolutely no clue about... well, anything. At my job,(big box store) I routinely overload trucks and cram large items in little cars. Last week, someone tried to return a fridge that fell out of their truck. They "weren't going far." The fridge didn't either, went about 3ft to the ground.

DESCRIPTION: This is a picture of how NOT to load a car at Home Depot!
Posted by Dan Doss .

Dan provided the following description:

================================================================

My Friends, I give you THE DUMBEST GUY ON EARTH! This picture is real - not doctored in anyway - and was taken by a Transportation Supervisor for a company that delivers building materials for 84 Lumber. When he saw it in the parking lot of IHOP, he bought a camera to take pictures. The car is still running, as can be witnessed by the exhaust. A man is sleeping, or otherwise out in the front seat, passenger side. The driver, in the background, was jogging up and down the road. Witnesses said their physical state was OTHER than normal. The driver finally came back after the police were called, and was found crouched behind the rear of the car, attempting to cut the twine around the load! Luckily, the police stopped him and had the load removed. The materials were loaded at Home Depot. Their store manager said they required the customer to sign a waiver. While the plywood and 2X4s are fairly obvious, what you can’t see is the back seat, which contains -- are you ready for this? -- 10 bags of concrete @ 80 lbs. each. They estimated the load weight at 3000 lbs. Both back tires exploded, the wheels bent and the back shocks were driven through the floorboard. The car, with TX plates (naturally), was headed for Grand Prairie, Texas, where Trent and his life partner were presumably planning to build a new house in which to smoke their crack...

I wonder if that was the same guy who overloaded a cart so much it went over backwards and picked the donkey off the ground. You think he moved to Texas?

Ah yes, This is what I get to deal with at least once a day.
Most often heard comments are:
"I didn't it was this big."
"Ya think it'll fit?"
"Can we take it out of the box?"
"Think it'll ride?"
"Can ya tie it down?"
"How do I tie this down?"
"I dunno how to tie this down!"
"This is heavy!"
"I need a break!"

On and on.... Suffice it to say, the store where I work, one is not allowed to tie anything down/on/in... and frankly, if one cannot tie their own load, they shouldn't have bought the
thing anyway. I'm just glad I don't work at home depot. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif
