If we’re doing mom sayings,

“It takes two to fight!” (Intended to stop any debate as to who started it or who was to blame.)

When I got in trouble my mom told me to, "Go pick up your room"... I would reply, "I can't, its too heavy". Her reply shut me up... "Just wait until your father comes home!"

My Mother used to stick her foot in it every so often, she had been in Australia only a couple of years and still used her typically English saying.
I was about 18 and with a group of friends, we had been messing around with an old car and were quite dirty especially our faces, she came out and said 'have you all been rooting' which was a common English expression, friends were taken aback and didn't know what to say as 'rooting' in Australia is slang for procreation.

Funny, that there was a time when DAD was the authority figure. Seems like a million years ago,

I remember my Uncles Ex Wife spoke of my Family, saying that if you put all of us in a sack and hit it with a stick, you would always get the right one.

My mom didn’t need to wait for my father to come home. She could take care of business just fine on her own. She gave horseback riding lessons, so we frequently had other kids at the barn.

One girl was particularly snotty towards her mother. I remember thinking that it was pretty cool how she got away with back talking. The next time my mom told me to do something, I mustered up my snottiest voice, and I told her, “NNNo!”

She immediately beat my *****. I remember thinking mid-whoopin’, “This isn’t working right at all.”
