Well, I often work for large multinationals. They are worse than the government. 30% cost overrun are the rule, 50% cost overrun are common. All caused by incompetence and mismanagement. There is very little pressure on them to shape up. Guess who pays for it? People like you and me at the gas pump. I love working for Oil & Gas.
When I do work for in example utility the attitude is quite different. They are highly regulated, have small profit margin and therefore count every dollar. Before I do job for them I send them detailed description what and how should be done so my time at the site is minimized to the necessary time to do my work. Working for utilities I certainly deserve my money.
