As far as govt education goes, I have strong feelings about that and yes, the govt propaganda begins in kindergarten and never ends. Their lies of omission contribute to the fabric of our culture. I asked one of the young roofers if he ever heard of Kent State. No clue.
We disagree on culture and tv and who follows who, makes for a good conversation. It's really probably a chicken and egg situation or a very powerful feedback loop.
The 1 example I think of is all the pill commercials. Was it the FDA in all their wisdom that allowed big pharma to advertise on tv? Selling drugs to people is like shooting fish in a barrel.
This is coming from a closet anthropologist but, seems to me, most everyone is taking a whole bunch of pills. I take a baby aspirin.
Ok, I know if you gotta take a pill, take one. I just had hernia surgery and tried to tuff it out. As soon as the surgery drugs wore off I was climbing the walls, i took the pill. I odten wonder what life would be like with out penicillin.
It's become such big business that the lawyers are doing class action suits, good thing the FCC allowed them to advertise! Get your anti depression pills in the morning and sue big pharma in the afternoon and the good news is, no co pay for the pills and no out of pocket cost for the lawyer.
The best commercial of them all is for an anti depression pill. It's a friggin cartoon. I recorded it and watch with it muted, the images are genius. They show this fathers knows best family, mom is strong, confident, skinny, good looking and running the show. I guess she's the one who's depressed. Daughter is a copy of mom. Dad looks a little girly and the boy is gently kicking a soccer ball in circles, by himself. Heres the capper......
Depression is portrayed as a warm soft fluffy bath towel. Like takin candy from a baby.
