Many years ago on the job site, we overheard a carpenter commenting on his own ‘questionable’ craftsmanship: “caulking and paint makes a carpenter what he ain’t”.

One of the tilesetters in our trade immediately applied his own new motto: “ if in doubt, grout!”

My personal motto that was very unpopular: “ perfect is close enough”.

All to often I would hear " I hope you brought your 1/2" caulk with you today" and I would say if I knew you were doing the finish work I would have! We would bust balls all day long! Those were the good old days!️

Another job site saying when someone’s craftsmanship was in question: “ well... that’s good enough for the girls I know”. Didn’t make any sense but it was popular.

How about it looks good from my house!

This was a concerning saying we would hear when the roofers were on the job. Keeping in mind this is the most dangerous job in construction: (yelling) “ hey! Can you toss me up another beer”?

Just curious... we worked in Vegas a few times, it was always Union.
