Just my personal opinion here, but I think the question comes down to whether one would be more comfortable on slopes in a 3000 or 4000 series, and for that my vote is definitely the 4000 after operating both side by side. My 3000 certainly has some advantages though too that shouldn't be overlooked (I can get in between my mature fir trees where the 4000 couldn't, the 3000 is much quieter than the 4000, etc.). Truth be told though, I think it has more to do with the ground condition than the slope, like DKC mentions above. Those hidden holes or rocks will scare the heck out of you in a hurry. Both times I have had the tires off the ground were because of exactly that, and it was not fun.
