What kind of bed is on your truck?

You make a good point. Depends on the truck. There was a photo of a late 70's GMC cab-n-chassis 4x4 dually with two tone blue paint, alcoa wheels and a modern aluminum flat bed. Absolutely beautiful and is the inspiration for the rehab of my truck in my avatar.
I know someone that has a 70’s Chevy w/ Detroit 350 diesel and a road ranger tranny. + your other stuff, that would be a killer truck.

Here’s my dump truck. I’ve always thought the regular cab long bed duallys look stupid. I couldn’t even find a 90s Chevy long bed picture. IMG_7098.JPGIMG_7099.JPGIMG_7100.JPG

My F250 now has a flat dump bed, with a frame mounted gooseneck ball, flat plate covering the hole when not towing. Can also tow a tagalong. Love the setup. Bed carries wood, mulch, gravel- unloads with one switch. I like being old and lazy. Point is you can have a dump and gooseneck at the same time. Might have to make the sides or standards removable for neck clearance.

Best of all worlds!

Do you have a picture of name of the model? Sounds perfect to me.

Can you post a picture of the bed dumped?

I think hauling 6-8k comfortably on the bed would be pretty cool. That would be all kinds of things - building materials, logs, rock - both on-road and off.
There is cool and then there is smart. For your itty bitty tractor, a dual axle bumper pull trailer with 5000# rated axles and electric brakes on each axle will be more than enough to handle your rig and can be pulled safely with a 1/2 ton pickup. Why pay more for something that you dont need when a regular pick up will do and get better gas mileage which is better for the environment also. It will also be much easier to load and have a much lower CG than having the tractor up on a flatbed truck.

As far as I’m concerned my dump truck is a smart idea. And it’s my money so that’s all that matters. You don’t understand what a useful tool a 1 ton dump truck is until you have one.

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I don't need to haul materials on the back of the truck. And please tell me why hauling weight within a truck's rated capacity isn't smart? Also curious as to where I said I wanted to put the tractor on the flatbed truck.

My father always had a one ton dump (he owned an excavating company). For the small stuff it was great, but it was so versatile that we always used it for nearly every task. Most tasks did not involve hauling bulk materials (we had 10 wheelers for that), but things like concrete block, bagged material, hand tools, big awkward parts, fire wood, asphalt curb mix, etc. I grew up having that truck around, so not having one felt foreign to me.

Today I have an old F450 dump and it is so handy, I'll never let it go. Some weeks it just hauls my trash and recycling to the transfer station. Some weeks, a lot more than that.
