I'd use a non-detergent oil in it.
In my work on plants makeing lubricating oil, we used huge rotary vacuum (in MEK dewaxing) or pressure (in propane) filters. The drives on those filters were often hydraulic type. The guys doing the maintenance quickly found out not to use motor oils with (as much as) 20% additives. For some reason, the additives would cause some gumming up inside the hydraulic works.
