I see what you mean. I wonder, though, if this tool has a wide enough blade/tooth to actually create a trench, evne a narrow one, as opposed to simply loosening the soil. I suppose that's where the idea of a cable burier mod comes into play (as mentioned in a previous post). In any case, I can see this tool having a much easier time cutting through my gravel driveway.

If you are not able to lay the cable as you pull the ripper, you are correct, the trench is too narrow. The idea is to bury the cable in one pass, without doing manual work.

Some folks pull the ripper through one time to check for rocks/roots that would stop you. Once you have a successful path, insert the wire and do the run one more time. Then drive your tractor over the disturbed soil and you are DONE.

Good idea. I have tons of trees, and will likely need to clear out the roots close to the surface before the wire can be layed.

I also have many treees.

I've thought about bolting a sharpened flat bar to the side of my subsoiler to aid in cutting through the smaller roots. Of course it won't cut through all of them, but might aid in the smaller ones.

I could very easily see sharpening the leading edge of the 'vertical' part of the sub-soiler to ease it's cutting through roots, ect. Use an angle grinder or similar.

Just add an "L" shaped piece of conduit to the trailing edge, run the wire through it and let 'er rip! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
