Here are a couple pics of a squash growing in my back yard. I don't know what kind it is. It just grew I think from some seeds from the parrot food. What kind is it? Can I eat it? Did I pick it too soon? There are lots more on the vine and it looks like they will get a lot bigger if I leave them.

Jim, I'll try to post a picture of my garage full of those later today. I think it's a spaghetti squash. They can get as big as 8 lb. Do a search on Google for cooking recipes. They really don't mature until they turn yellow. They are best left for 8-10 days to mature after picking. You can poke a few holes in one and heat it in the microwave for about 12 minutes on high. Take it out, slice it, and remove the seeds. Then, take a fork and start scraping the meat. It will come out looking just like spaghetti.

It doesn't have much flavor, so you can use it as a low-cal, low-cholesterol pasta.

Here is the picture of my harvest. We've eaten and given away almost this many. I let some just rot in the field. Next year I'm only going to plant one or two plants. I told my wife we could carve spaghetti squash instead of pumpkins for Halloween.:D
