2008 Kubota M7040 HD
Been surfing this site for a bit. Good info. Thanks !!

I have a 50 acre hobby farm in the finger lake region of Western upstate NY. Looking for a 4wd, 50-60 hp tractor with front end loader. Just put a pond in. Have some clean up to do. I currently have a 1973 574 International, 2wd. I run a 6 ft. brush hog. Plan on doing a little hay and maybe pull a 2 bottom plow. Land is level, for the most part. I brush hog trails through my woods also for the kids and hunting season.

So, those are my needs. There are many choices out there. I've looked at most, but not a Kioti, yet.

I have a small dilemma. I purchased a new TC 35DA New Holland about a month ago. It's 4wd, Ind. tires, Super Steer,6 foot quick attach bucket, and 72 inch belly finish mower. It's a bit too big for my wife. It only has 9 hrs. on it..lol.., but it's a bit small on HP for what I need to do on the farm. It's also hydrostatic drive. I like gear drive for the field work.

Guess I'll either swap it or sell it outright. I'm sure outright would be much better, but timing is narrow for me. My home is 250 miles from the farm and have little time up there and need a new tractor very soon.

There is a local Mahindra dealer, Kioti and New Holland within a 20 mile radius of the farm.

I see a Mahindra dealer post here from Batavia, NY. That's only about 1 hr. from my farm. Maybe he'd be interested in my New Holland.

I know most manufacturers have issues. Looking for one with the fewest..lol.. I'm easy on my equipment and take real good care of it, so just looking for something that will be ready to rock when I pop in at the farm.

Any guess what the New Holland is worth??

How about a 1973 International 574 diesel with 4 new tires. One owner and freshly painted, 2wd?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Sounds like the 574 will do what you need and save you 25 grand.

574 IH is a GREAT tractor. If yours is in decent shape, it'd bring $5500 minimum to as much as $8000 here in my area. They're very popular tractors.

It is a nice tractor. I'm looking for 4wd and a FEL. I seem to tinker on the tractor every time I go up. Nothing big, just a leak here or there. Just did all new coolant hoses and PS leak fix. I love playing with it, don't get me wrong, I just don't have time to get parts and such when I go up. Over Labor day, I spent two days working on it/waiting for parts. I'm a little **** about making sure things are right and rather let it sit until the right parts come in for it, as opposed to operating it with a chance of a failure while working. It's not my living, so it's o.k. if a field does not get cut, but like to make the most of my time while there. I may just keep it for a very good backup tractor. My 17 yr old son loves it and we could double up the mowing chores.

Just spoke to a JD dealer about a 5425 and 5203 models. Waiting on prices. I see the 5203 has no remotes from the factory. Still checking on the 5425.

I would, however, be happy to get $5,000.00 for it. I just installed 4 brand new tires on it too. Anyone looking for one??

The 5203 does come from the factory with a single rear remote,
and the joystick with mid mount couplers is optional, and would
be needed for the loader.

The 5425 doesn't have any SCV as standard equipment, but I would
imagine most if not all stock units out there have 2 or 3 scv's installed
at the factory as a build option.

Thanks for the input.

I think I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Kubota M7040 HD with M1153 loader. They will take my 1973, 574 IH ,on trade and $25,000.00 difference. That's delivered to my farm and loading the tires. They are 30 minutes away and will give me a loaner tractor if ever needed. Signed on the contract!! Not that I plan on many break downs, but that is a nice dealer feature for me. Again, I don't get as much time as I'd like to up there, so this is a good feature for me.

Any thoughts on the Kubota M7040 HD ??

Thanks again,

A lot of people on here have talked about getting the cast wheel centers in lieu of the standard dish wheels. The cast iron centers plus loaded tires will go a long way toward the ballast you need to offset the front loader.

Good luck with your new tractor, and remember - we want pictures!!

What type of haying are you looking at?
For large round bales you would want more than 80 HP for cutting and baling.
70 HP might do it if the tractor has a lot of weight to it.
But you won't be able to bale with less than 70 HP unless you use small square bales.

you can also add another rear remote as an option on the 5203.

When buying a new tractor, try to get any of the additions-factory options that you might need at the time of purchase. Usually less money if purchased up front in the beginning rather than added on after you have taken delivery of the tractor.

Just something else to think about before you actually make the purchase.

Good luck
