I agree. I had never even thought about it until our first grandchild was born and our daughter asked us about it and I told her I really didn't care what he called me; that I just always called my grandparents Grandmother and Granddaddy, so I was surprised when my wife suggested he call her Nana.

Thanks Gary! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I know what you mean about being in those awkward years. We've been there for the last four years or so. This was great news, although it was somewhat.....uh......unexpected at this time, if you know what I mean. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

While talking to my son about this, he mentioned that her family called the grandparents grandma and grandpa, and did we like that? We assured him that that was just fine! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I guess in the long run it really doesn't matter. As long as the children know they are loved, they'll want to come visit anytime and I'll let them call me whatever they want to! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My two sons are aged 2 1/2 and 1. When my oldest was born, my folks
were discussing what they wanted to be called. Well guess what,

(not to be confused with Mommy) and Poppy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Both my grandchildren call us MaMaw and PaPaw. There was no discussion about this, though both our daughter and son-in-law referred to us as Grandma and Grandpa to both kids. I think it's just what comes out when a baby first tries to say those names, and if they are not corrected later when they can more easily pronounce the "Gr" sound, that's what you get stuck with. Suits me fine. Our youngest boy is still at home, when he's not off at college that is, and he usually calls me "old man". While that is technically correct, I often reply with a playfull swat up side his head to remind him I'm not all that old.

Well my twin grandsons call me Pampo. They starting calling my wife Mrs. Johnson when the band kids would come over and visit my wife. But here lately they have staring calling her grandma.
I don't care what they call me, just don't call me late for dinner. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

congrats on the grandchild. THEY ARE A PLEASURE! ithink they come up with these names according to how they can pronunce certin words as they start talking. my name is Frank, and my wifes name is Rose, so when our grandson started to talk he pronouced grandma as MAMMA, so now it is mamma wose.my sons name is frank also so the boy got to saying unkel wank, so now he he calls me poppie unkle wank,. don't really care what he calls me they are so darn cute and loving. enjoy the grandchild, hard not to /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
