My grandkids have grandparents from two marriages, as well as great grandparents floating around, so it get's complicated.

I'm "Grandpa," and my wife is "Grandma." Our eldest grandson calls Jan's ex-husband, "My Grandfather." He calls Jan's father, "Grandfather." He calls my father, "Grandpa Henry."

It will be really interesting starting next week, when we have four generations living in the same house. We're starting our own Gypsy Village. Am I too old to join the Foreign Legion?

If I knew grandchildren were so much fun, I'da had them first.

Congratulations! Just based on our experience, you and your wife are about to enter one of the most blessed, happy times of your lives. Enjoy every minute of it!

The name thing stopped me cold at first, but being called Grandaddy surely makes me proud now. I got that moniker to distinguish between the other grandfather, who got the name, 'Grandpa'.

Actually, as it's pronounced by the 2 and 3 year-old's, I'm "Band Daddy", which has sort of a 1950's, beatnik flavor to it. It's like, you know, way out there, man.

I'm "Grandpa" and my wife is "Grandma", but it comes out "Grampaw" and "Grammaw". They add our last name to distinguish us from the other set; "Grampaw Horner" or "Grampaw Wood". We didn't really care, but my daughter is very traditional and that's what she wanted. The thing is, my son-in-law's folks were very, very upset that they weren't going to get a choice. They wanted something totally off-the-wall as "names", and throw a conniption fit every time the granddaughters don't use them, throwing the kids into hurt confusion (the kids are only 3 and a little over 1). Fortunately, they live a few states away and don't travel much. We're moving next door, and don't give a rat's patootie what they call us, as long as they call us a lot!

If they follow my daughter's example, as they get older they'll call me "Hey!" most of the time, "Grampaw" when they need to differentiate, and "Grandfather" either when they're upset with me or want something. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And, yes, Grampaw's do say "Cool"; in fact they say it a lot!

Being from the south (Texas, at least), my wife's kin tend to use the Paw (Dad), PawPaw (Grandad) and PaPaw(other Grandad a lot) .... but, as with some others, my wife's (well, I guess now they're mine too) grandkids have more than the requisite four gandparents so they all tend to have some fun with it .... I'm generally PaPaw ... being the newest Grandfather ... but quite often I'm PaPaw Peter. My wife, on the other hand, has to put up with the fact that her kids are still pretty mischevious and always take any opportunity to try to get her goat ... so lately she's been "Granny Horsey" in honor of her facination with minis and all things horse.
Kids WILL have fun with your name, no matter what YOU want ... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ... and that's a GOOD THING.
