thats what was what I was going to say but I did not think they got that much snow there. you see trees cut like that by beavers in the winter Up in the u.p. of Mi
Bluecheck546 gets the downing part right. Remember that hurricane Isabel a few years ago? It took down four trees along this creek bed. Beenthere gets the stress part right. Mother nature wins as the trees root ball weight pulled it back up after I topped it. Markie61 gets the beech award.
No tractor or RTV down there. Just a lot of grunt work over the last three days.
I took my handy 4X4 lever with me. I started to notice the tree had a lot of "bounce" in it working the saw closer to the root ball.
The last cut I made I gave the all clear, and pushed the 4X4 with my foot.
Up it went nice and slow, should have made a video. I remember hearing and reading about this behaviour but had never seen it for myself.
I've had some red oaks to do same thing. I remember some years back they had a film (I think it was rescue 911) of a young black kid playing in the rootball hole while his dad was cutting the tree. It stood back up and the kid was trapped. The father didn't know he was under there until he stopped the saw. It took a lot of effort to get the kid out. It was a good thing the kid was small. They got him out alive.
OH, and I thought when the creek flooded Sharks with laser beams attached to their heads... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
