What octane

Most of the small motor companies are recomending premuim. Premium burns cooler.

I burn premium in all my small engines and old IH gasser tractor. The tractor seems to run cooler and will not "diesel" when shut off hot when running premium. Iw will "diesel" with 87.

I also run 93 octane in my 90 Subaru, it runs better ( need all the hp I can get ) and I get better mileage, about 50 more miles per tank. So the money is about the same.

Of course at $2.37/GAL yesterday, not cheap...

Me thinks diesels use a cetane rating totally different than octane.

The higher octane fuels burn slower and are less explosive. They give a slower burn so that the engine is less likely to ping yet the higher octane fuel has the same amount of energy per gallon. The fuel burn is more of a push than a bang.

Well I burn 87 in all and 94 in motorcycle. My bike is the only one that I notice a difference in.

The price of fuel is not even an issue. Fuel is cheap and I save a HUGE amount not having my diesel anymore. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Price can go higher and I do not care.

Regular unleaded and Diesel finally evened out again here. $2.00 per gallon for either one today!

we have $1.97 for 87 octane and $2.43 for diesel.

Just paid $2.12 for 87. and that's the lowest in town...

In my Dodge truck with 1hp per cubic inch I put 87 Octane. I my Audi with a turbo and 1hp per cubic centimeter I in 93 Octane. Depends on how much the engine is stressed.
