What precautions should be taken when welding on a tractor

I have to be honest, I dont always disconnet the battery either. If I am welding on a old 3000 ford that doesnt have all those new fangled electronics, I just hook up the ground and start welding. Its the newer stuff that has all those sensors and control modules that I worry about.

Make sure your ground is close to the weld and is a good ground and weld away. I have never disconnected a battery and have never had a problem. I have welded on the flatbed of my 2017 F-450, my 2016 GMC Denali, my 2016 Deere skid steer, my 2012 Deere backhoe, etc. All newer stuff with computers and no issues. Muffler shops weld on cars all day everyday and they never disconnect batteries.

When I weld on the Fordson , I just make sure that the transmission is in neutral while the engine is running. I'm not so good a carrying a deep bead while walking at 3 mph!
