What price for a 425 with a loader?

Local guy is offering us a JD-425 with a 48" mover and with a front loader. It has about 170 hrs on it. I don't know the year, the VIN is MOO425A082775

He is asking a little more than $6,000 for it. First we don't need the front bucket really, have one on our 790.

What do you think of the 425? What do you think of the price?

For the hours, and for the FEL, and that it is a year 2000....the price isn't out of line.

You will have to decide if you want to buy a FEL that you won't use.

Maybe offer what you think is fair and try to sell the FEL, or have the owner try to sell it.

I owned a 425 with a #40 loader and a mower 54" deck (as well as a snow-blower for the front). I used the tractor to maintain my business property for mowing and snow blowing the sidewalks, etc.

Many feel this is the best lawn tractor model that Deere made. Mine was a real workhorse. I used the loader for many small projects and one major project while building my home. I skidded very large boulders into place with the loader bucket. I had some pretty serious weight on the back and fluid and wheel weights and chains on the tractor. We had a difficult area in which to build the boulder retaining wall.....and this combo proved to be the ticket. :thumbsup: There is no way I could lift more than about 600 lbs....but I could skid some pretty sizable stones into place.

Sounds like you found a very low hour unit. Still.....I'd say that is a steep price if the loader isn't of any value to you. HOWEVER...I think lots of 425 owners would line up to pay you (as much as $1500??) for that loader. If you could sell the loader.....it may seem like a fair price.

One other thing. Many 425 owners want all wheel steer for mowing. I'm told that you cannot have AWS and use a loader with such tractors. This may limit the number of buyers for the loader?....and the value of the 425 too as the AWS became quite popular in later years.

The loader will sell all day long for 2000 to 2200 on ebay. I have sold three of them and all have brought that kind of money. The tractor is worth between three and four grand with that low of hours

Nice machines the 400 series. The 445 and 455 were "larger" tire size etc. Deere hasn't given me a reason to upgrade yet. Sounds like you found a creampuff. I'd give it a serious look and of course sell the loader. Been watching for a similar deal for my Mother/Brother.
