Have you tried calling Schwab, Vanguard, etc.? Personally, I picked Vanguard and have never had a problem getting very direct answers to my questions.
I haven't called anyone. I don't like talking to sales people.

If you talk to Vanguard or Fidelity they will usually explain how to do things, not sell you. At least that's been my experience.

Another vote for Fidelity. I've always found their phone advice clear, simple, understandable, not pushy. I chose Fidelity over Vanguard for this. Fidelity customer service is slightly better than Vanguard, 24/7 phone instead of 9-5 for example.

An example of Fidelity customer service: In Dad's final year we simply instructed Fidelity to gather up all his random various accounts and stock certificates from elsewhere. They sucked everything up from all over the place without additional input from us. Next month everything was on his monthly Fidelity statement. Excellent service! I've pulled IRA's into my Fidelity account similarly, just one phone call and the transfer-in goes. They know how to deal with all the other financial entities.

I've never looked at Schwab but it's my impression you would encounter more of a sales pitch there.

Have both Fidelity and Vanguard no complaints on either. Fidelity can be more hands on if you like. And I find their analysis services a tad better.

Don't think you can go wrong either way.

I have had excellent service from Fidelity. Only sales pitch I ever got was for an annuity when I was first rolling my 4001K into an IRA. The lady made her sales pitch and I told her to give me a week while I thought about it. When I talked to her a week later and told her I did not want the annuity she said that she was relieved. Said she hated selling them because they were not a good deal but that she was required to make the pitch. And that some people wanted them no matter what else she had to offer. Had a wonderful relationship with her for years until she got promoted out of her position. Talked to her about every four months for years.

I’ve got experience with both Schwab, and Fidelity. It’s a toss up to me. Both have exemplary customer service. Neither is sales pushy.
I call , and get a polite , helpful , clear speaking representative from both companies. Both have gone above and beyond , rectifying any issues I might have had.
I give Schwab the nod for trading software (Thinkorswim), and Fidelity the nod for mutual funds, and ease of looking up information on those funds. The mutual funds advantage isn’t a factor for me, because I buy equivalent ETF’s which don’t have fees, or trading restrictions like mutual funds.
Can’t go wrong with either company

Probably not much different than the level of service I have received at Vanguard. I am provided quarterly discussions on my investment mix and asked if that still meets my comfort level for risk. They have provided help and answers for my long term (age 100) retirement goals. They have a pretty neat, daily updated goal success rating marker. They have also been very helpful with my estate and trust plans.
