What Royal Wedding Gift?

/ What Royal Wedding Gift? #21
It is kind of sad that not a single individual has taken this question seriously, so I may as well be the first. My vote would be for a 1951 Ford 8n with Ferguson 2 x 12" plow. That tractor, in my opinion, was the high-water mark for the Ford Tractor company and represents the most refined form of the Ford N-series that the Irish engineer, Harry Ferguson developed in partnership with the legendary American inventor Henry Ford. It is true that the Ford/Ferguson relatitionship was rough by 1951, after the death of Henry Ford, but the 8n, with its red and white paint, was so much prettier than the earlier, all-gray 9n making it far more fitting for a woman of the beauty of Miss Middleton. The 8n and plow would also be a great tool for organic farming on that big estate. That is also the first tractor I ever purchased, sill own, and it remains my all-time favorite make/model.

Ahhhh - Thank you Wolc

It really doesn't matter if you're a Royalist or a Roundhead - the key question is:

What tractor & single implement would you give to Prince William as a wedding present?

Obviously the Royalists will most likely choose reliable and strong machinery - most likely green in colour and very expensive

I'm guessing all the Roundheads who have replied to this thread already would never dream of giving the Royal Family a wedding present  - what about a trojen horse? Why not offer the future Monarch (of what ever is left of the "empire" then) the worst tractor you can think of with an equally useless implement?

So I ask again: What tractor & single implement would you give to Prince William as a wedding present? - be it good or bad ! :p

Very good choice Wolc - it'll be interesting to see what other people think, but I personally totally agree that the red 8N is a truely beautiful tractor to look at. :)

What; matching Wellingtons (gum boots) are fit and proper- I've seen photos of the Queen herself in 'em, while working her Corgies!

Besides, haven't you heard? Speaker Boehner says "We're Broke!"

Actually as I think about it, it is terrible that the UK government is spending millions on this pony show while cutting services and jobs. The people protesting and the royals partying is quite a contrast.

Personally I was shocked to learn that the queen still has veto power. I can not see any role for royalty.

No she doesn't - her role is ceremonial. Yes, bills get royal ascent, but as I say it is a formality. Her only role is to open and close parliament and appoint prime ministers.

As a self employed person, the Friday shut-down is going to cost me a day's pay. And as others say, the policing and clean-up bills will be enormous - as various groups seem to be looking for the opportunity to protest - I have heard that the London Police will cover the wedding and all other forces are sending officers to London to protect the rest from an early May-Day Riot - including my local force - which no doubt I will be paying for through local taxes.

However, a bigger cost to UK taxpayers is President van Rompouy and his friends in the EU - next year it will cost us over $16bn (which would pay for a lot more teachers / nurses etc than the wedding will cost) - not to mention the associated obligations to buy European products such as aircraft that cost double the price of US equivalents!

However, to answer the question - a JCB Fastrak and a Ransomes plough - from two of the remaining (mostly) British Agricultural companies (though plough would have to be 2nd hand I think).
