From a dealers perspective, I can certainly see how a situation like this can happen. Often, what we call rebates are really "DSAs" which is dealer settlement allowance for programs designed to move certain models by making them more competitive. This particular rebate can be handled by the dealer either way, cash to customer or cash to dealer. It is common when asked for a price, we quote a "cash price" meaning all rebates and allowances are in. It can get confusing. At our place we always show those discounts on the invoice even though in some cases it is a dealer settlement allowance and not a true rebate. Believe me selling tractors is just about as frusrtrating as buying them! Glad this worked out and both sides ended up with what they originally negotiated.
