Tractor Sizing What size Batt. Does my 20 HP Tractor Have to have

i have a 204 Nortrac tractor , i dont see what the Cold cranking amps should be , of a new Batt. any one know , i dont seem to fiend it in the book , THANKS !

It's in your book, just not expressed as CCA. Yours will likely say it's either an 80AH (amp hours) or a 100AH. Since 1AH equals ~6CCA, your original Chinese battery was likely somewhere in the neighborhood of 480 or 600CCA.

And since so many Chinese tractor owners have complained about the short lifespan of their OE batteries, my recommendation would be to get nothing smaller than a 600CCA.

I've had a 204 for 6 years and live in southern Wisconsin. Last year I moved my battery from in front of the radiator to just below the grill. I also decided to replace the stock battery. I went with a 875 cca. Price was so similar to smaller batteries I went for the more powerful size. The tractor always started like a champ but after the new battery, it spins faster and starts just a click sooner. Winter starts are better as well. Go bigger!

I replaced my Jinma 284 battery with one that will also fit my truck.(01 GMC Safari) it takes a 750 cca and they sell them with both side and top terminals. Now when my Safari battery bites it, I'll have the one in the Jinma as a back up. Most auto batterys require more cca than the jinma and I like having backups. My Jinma battery holder will take just about any size battery too.

1) Measure dimension of battery holder
2) Go to favourite battery store and buy the largest number CCA that will fit in the holder
3) Bring home battery and clean all connections from battery to tractor
Clamp battery in and forget about it for the next five years

Too many CCA is the same as too much fun, too much money, too good lookin', etc.

See if you have enough space for a Group 27 size battery. It is one of the largest batteries widely used in automobiles.

Autozone's $60 group 27 Dual Purpose is about 850 CCA; 115 amp hours. That's the best bargain I've found. I posted here when I got one for my Yanmar in 2007, and it's as good as I had hoped. I've never put the charger on it since I installed it.

Thanks Every one , its about 4 years old , and its working good right now , but was thinking i should change it being 4 years old , Thanks Frank up on the NY Pa line ! PS i Sue the Tractor more in the winter , we got well over 200 Inch a snow this last winter .
