My dealer recommended 42-inch (will be Land Pride BB15 series), but all the other dealers I spoke with prior to buying from this one said 48-in would be fine. His reasoning was that he'd been told by a couple people that the 2230 had difficulty with a fully loaded 48-in box blade. What have other 2230 owners used, and did you have any problems?

I told him to order the 48-in for now.

Many, many, many, people with the bx have the 48 inch. I have one and it works great. Go with the 48

My dealer sold me a 48" and, I think, that seems to be par for most other folks and, I'm quite happy with it. If your BX seems unhappy with it full ... back off before you fill it /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You should buy a 48". You'll appreciate when you have some backfilling to do.

I would for sure go with the 4ft. I have a 16hp B series with a 4ft. boxblade and it performs quite well. I even unearthed some big trees from the bottom of a burn pile a few weeks ago with it.... and I had the scarifiers down. You shouldn't have any trouble.

I have a Bush Hog SBX 480 (48") Nice and heavy at 430 lbs.

It works well behind my BX-23. It can get heavy when full of wet stuff.

I wouldn't be affraid of the 48"

To be happy in the long run I think you will want a box blade that is slightly wider than your rear tires.

Since the width of the rear tires is greater than 42" and something like around 45", the only reasonable choice in my mind would be the 48" width.

I think you made the right choice when you told the dealer you wanted the 48" box blade. That is the one I would get too...

I agree with Henro that you'll be happier with a BB that covers your tracks. Raising the teeth, extending the top link, and raising the 3 pt all will provide less drag should you find yourself bogged down. Happy box blading, they're great implements.

Thanks everybody, I appreciate everyone weighing in. That was my impression from checking out TBN over the past several months.

The cynical part of me thinks the dealer wanted to unload a 42-in blade he'd had in stock, cuz he told me he'd have to order the 48-in, but he had the 42 in stock, oh and by the way, it's better for your tractor anyway. Glad I went with my gut, but now I've got to take everything he tells me with a grain of salt. I hate not trusting people! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That was my first thought, too. Also, I found out later the 42-in only has three scarifiers and the 48-in has 4.
