Generally you figure 5 HP per cutting foot. Your 2320 is 24 hp at the flywheel, probably 20 PTO hp. You could probably get away with the 5 ft but it would max out the tractor. Also depending what your moving it will bog down more than the 4 ft. You would be able to mow more, quicker with the 4 ft because you wouldn't have to go as slow. As far as frontier vs TSC, I don't know who builds the implements for them and the specs. I'm guessing with a 20 hp tractor your not shredding large acreage and heavy material so I would think the TSC would be fine.

How wide is the 2320. I understand the power required to drive the cutter, but I'm just wondering if the 4 footer will cut out the wheel track or not.

I believe the tractor is wider than 4 ft, probably close to 5 ft. So yeah the tractor is wider than the cut so you have to take that factor in. My dad has a small Deere, I think close to the same model if not the same, and with a 4 ft hog on the back it feels pretty much maxed out. Last summer he let his field get a lil too high, 10acres, and I had to mow it for him with my tractor. Deere 6420 with 15ft mower.

20 hp require for a 4' and 25 for a 5'. Just a few key factors when buying a mower or any equipment, if it breaks where are u going to get parts. TSC doesnt carry or get any major replacemaent parts for there mowers. Most dealers dont want to spend time on repairing the cheap mowers cuz of the time they have to spend locating part. Sometimes its better to spend a little more money and go with a dealer brand so you have the comfort of knowing there is a place to get parts and someone who will work on the mower, and u also will get a better piece of equipment and a better warranty. TSC mowers usely last a couple of years then ur having to buy a new again.

The 4' will not quite cover the tire width of a 2320 as they are about 52" wide. As for the RC size, the 2320 would physically handle a 5' from a pulling it perspective, but would not run it in deep grass well. These are stout little machines but a 4' footer is about all they would handle in heavy brush. That said, I have not personally found going with a larger RC by only one foot helps much time wise on small-medium projects of this type. If one is cutting a large enough parcel it matters a lot, then that person really needs a larger tractor AND RC.

I have a 2320 and regularly use a JD LX5 (5 foot) rotary cutter and have no problems. Depending on what you're cutting and at what height, you do have to adjust your speed accordingly. I picked up the LX5 used on craigslist. I checked out TSC ones, JD & Frontier cutters and decided to go with the used LX5 because of the quality of the cutter + price. I think a lot depends on how much you're going to use a cutter. If not a lot, then a TSC cutter might be fine.

I had a demo JD 850 and a JD 513 (5') rotary mower and it handled it just fine. If in thick grass, then easy to just not go as fast forward if running low on hp. A good feature of the hydro tranny.

I think overall, the 5' would be your best choice. Your decision on the color of the cutter, but I believe the Frontier is better built.

Deere will tell you to use a 4 footer on the 2320. With 18 PTO hp I'm not sure I'd push it any more. The 2320 comes in around 1600 and the 3PH is also taxed with a 600# attachment.

Absolutely correct, IMHO, on both counts... The 2320 will handle a 5 foot cutter for most applications, but speed will have to be reduced in taller/heavier areas. The LX5 is a superior cutter to both the TSC and Frontier units - but also was much more expensive - and hard to justify behind a 2320 or even a 2520... Of course boughtaJD was lucky enough to find a good used one!
