What size disc for YM1500

Hello,
I've searched the board in attachments etc.
Does anyone know what size in width and or weight a rebuilt YM1500 2wd can handle when it comes to a disc attachment?
Its just going to be used to turn over some dirt so I can throw some grass seed in a muddy area.
Is there a formula. I've heard that a mower should be 4 HP per foot.
A YM1500 is 1500lbs and 17 HP.

I think there are many factors involved here. Gound condition, disc sizes, disc weight, etc. Having said that I believe a 4 footer would be maximum for a 2 wheel drive 1500. You will run out of traction before running out of power. This is just opinion, nothing more. :2cents: Nothing scientific.

Harrows are ground contact implements, generating considerable draft AKA: resistance. Using a Disc Harrow with your light tractor and two wheel drive is probably not going to work, you will not have enough traction.

Do you have a Front End Loader on the Yanmar? Consider a Ratchet Rake.

Thank you folks. I don't have a FEL but thats a good idea, I just need to barely turn over some very lightly packed dirt. I wanna hand sow some grass seed then hand rake it back over in some bald areas across my property, its in dry areas where shade and years of leaves have created dead zones I've had several ice storms do a lot of tree work for me. I've been able to get trees cut and debris moved. I borrowed a 4 foot bush hog and cleaned up undergrowth, pine needles, kudzu and small branches and other growth.
I then took a finishing mower and cleaned all the sun starved areas down to dirt and now want to rough up the dirt to get some fescue seed out.
I have access to a 5 ft. smooth PTO driven disc. I also might consider a 4ft. tiller a neighbor has.

I just bought a YM226 but the water pump is out and I'm trying to wait for cooler weather to replace it, may have to go ahead and get that round to it on order post haste.

Funny thing is, I rebuilt the motor on the YM1500 and it pulled and cut 4 inch crab grass in 5th gear and only level terrain that little 2 cyl.beast pulled and cut in 7th gear. It was late last summer in 90 degree weather for over an hour and didn't get hot enough to push 50/50 coolant out of the radiator into the overflow bottle.

These Yanmars are tough little machines. I plan on listing it on CL in March and am wondering what to list bit for.

For this one-time project, either of those implements would do. It might take more passes than a properly sized implement. But so long as you can lift it, just go do it.

Let me know what size disc you decide to go with. I've got a YM 1500 and I'm looking at getting a small set of disc to put in a food plot.
