I need to sharpen up the blades on my MX6 cutter, but don't have a socket big enough to do it. So, to avoid going out and buying a whole set of really large sockets, would like to get the right size the first time. So does anybody know what size I need, metric or SAE?? And any advice for a first timer doing this?

Thanks,
J.

I have the 616, which was the predecessor to the MX6. The size on the 616 is 1 1/2" SAE

Not many people sharpen rotary cutter blades though. Just wear them out and buy a new set.

We touch them up with an angle grinder, while they are still mounted, works well...

My little 5' BushHog Squealer takes a 1 13/16" socket to remove blades. Like rockyridge, I sharpen with an angle grinder, but I remove the blades first...too hard (and dangerous) for me to do while still attached to the mower. Anyway, a 1 1/2" socket is pretty big. Don't be surpirsed if your 1/2" air wrench won't budge the nut. I bought a 3/4" air wrench (eBay) and it works great, even with my small compressor the nuts come loose. Good luck.
