I know that there was a post some time ago but I can't find it. What size socket do I need to remove deck blades??....are they reverse threads??..Thanks

30 millimeter and no they are not left-hand thread spindles. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If 30mm u can divide by 25.4 (25.4mm=1") and get 1.1811 so a 1 3/16 (1.1875) socket will work too.

Or, you can multiply the metric dimension by .03937 and get the English (American) equivalent.

Example: 30 x .03937 = 1.1811.

Better to buy the metric sized socket then use the English (American) equivalent. Using a 1 3/16ths (or 1.1875") socket will be a loose fit which will eventually round off the corners of the attaching bolt. It's also better to use a 6 point socket rather then a 12 point. A 6 point is less likely to slip on the bolt.

If you check the owner's manual, it lists the nut as 30.2mm. It seems weird to see this on a Kubota. I have not done the math, but my 1 3/16" socket fits well, and I have not seen any evidence of rounding after having the blades off 30-40 times.

That is a rather unusual call out, but in this case, 30.2 mm converts to 1.1889 (just over 1 3/16ths). Sounds like Kubota bought or used English sized fittings, at least in this application, then converted the English size to millimeters.

Of couse, the call out may be 30 x 2.0 which is a 30 mm Ø and 2 threads per mm (rather a fine thread for the application, though)...so, the use of an English sized nut seems to be the more sensible answer in this case.

I use a 30mm socket which is a six point. Rarely trust those 12 point sockets for that torque.

Roy, The threads sure aren't 2 to the mm, as you guessed they weren't. It is strange on a tractor where everything else is metric (I bought a set of 1/2" drive metric sockets just for the tractor.)
