My BH90 is too weak to be effective digging out large stumps. Renting a full size or larger backhoe would be the best way to dig out stumps. Grinding stumps is easier and makes less mess.

didn't mean to put in the digging out stumps part. I do have an old ford backhoe for that. I was looking at the tym 554. have a dealer and service about 10 miles away. he has a new one for 25k just wasn't expecting to spend that much. but like I told wifey, 5 year warranty and a tractor will last us many, many years. tractor is 55 hp and shuttle tranny. not gonna be row crop farmin, just food plots and garden. what do yall think?

I would prefer HST. Do you have to use the clutch to shift between forward and reverse? A glide shift transmission that you don't have to clutch is pretty good, but having to use the clutch to shift between forward and reverse gets old fast.

That is a pretty area between Marshall and Leslie, but kinda steep unless you are in that river bottom.. Be careful on those slopes. Good luck in your search.

I'm about 65 miles west of you, as the crow flies. About 150 miles to drive it....Like you, the land is steep in areas, some pasture, some woods, LOTS of rocks. I bought a used Kubota M6800 locally. So far, real happy with it, other than I think there needs to be another gear between 4L and 1H, guess I will learn patience.

I had the tires filled, and still need to be careful in the steep sections. Pulling a new 6 foot Land Pride, I sometimes have to gear down on the steep sections (trying to go straight up or down on those sections). I have access to a M4700, I think it would do the same jobs, just wanted a little more tractor for future growth, the ability to move up if I decide to do more with it. At some point may start cutting hay, plus have a long road to maintain, so was concerned the 47 horse would be big enough.

Be patient, keep looking, and buy as much as you are comfortable with. I found a used brush hog and 7 foot scraper blade about two weeks after I bought the tractor. The lady also had a seeder spreader and Burch disc she threw in, and wound up buying it all for $600.

might think about hiring out to remove stumps, save on not buying backhoe. pick up a few more implements. agree with those who say go heavy duty utility. one poster's M6800 or larger would be ideal.
