Von, I too, have a 5' Howse and I always leave the FEL off when I mow; better visibility, better clearance for turning in tight spots, and smoother ride on rough terrain. Having to mow with the non-removable FEL was one of the things I didn't like about the B7100.

Well, I cut the hills for the first time with the B2710 and left the FEL off. It is a little light in the front end, so I added a little weight to help keep the front wheels on the ground. Here is a photo of the steeper slopes and on the next post the weights.

And here are the weights. About 100 lbs.

Von, the front end should only be light when you pick the mower up, shouldn't it? I can tell mine is lighter when I lift the mower, but it's never seemed light enough to worry about; however, those weights are not a bad idea at all. With the front end loader so far out in front, and heavier, too, it makes the front end bounce on my rough terrain (one of the reasons I always leave it off), but a hundred pounds in close that way shouldn't do that. I might have to try putting some on mine.

Bird, would you drive up that hill with no weight on the front of the tractor? I know, know, you are a backer-upper. What did you do, Von?

There is a road that takes you around to the top. Here is an old photo that shows it better.

Glennmac, of course, it's hard to be sure just how steep that slope is from a picture, but it looks about like a tank dam that I recently mowed and I drove forward all the time, up and down, so I guess I'd say yes. But when in doubt, you're right; I back up it. There's one slope on my brother's property that I won't go up forward with or without weights, but while I was out of town last month, my brother tells me he came and got my tractor and mower and said he backed down it and drove forward up it./w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Von, I mean after you mowed down one swath, did you turn around and mow straight up the hill. Or do you mean you drive up the road for each pass down the hill.
