Snow Equipment Buying/Pricing what snow plowing costs?

Sometimes the older folks near me offer me some gas for my tractor. I politely decline.:D:D

Yep, and if people insist I tell them I'll make them a deal...

I ask them to do something nice for someone else accept no payment in return and when they try to pay you, make this same deal with them.

I figure if we were all a bit nicer and tried to help when we can this would be a nicer place to live.

Not sure which forum this belongs on, but here goes: My wife is always asking me, whenever I buy another piece of equipment, what someone would charge us to do this or that. I am curious what the going rates are for clearing a 700' long, hard gravel (sloping, but straight) lane of snow might be... some areas have banks on the side make it more difficult to deal with deep snowfalls, and an outside contractor would be starting at the bottom and working up. This is in Northern Baltimore county. I had no idea what people charge for this.

i am from western md and i talked to a guy that does plowing last week and with this snow he said the price was just about anything. but i do nknow that most people charge about $80-135 per hour. so there is money to be made if you have the equipment.

After a snow storm I have 12 driveways to do, half of which are paying customers, and can afford to pay;the other 6 are either elderly couples,or have health issues and are on my way to the paying customers. I charge a min. of 40 bucks to drop my bucket or blade I suspect on average I get 80 bucks an hour for the paying customers. Which is the going rate around here.
The other driveways,I feel its just being a decent neighbour, can't drive by and watch someone trying to move a foot of snow with a shovel, however my wife didn't have to do any baking at Xmas time, lots of Xmas cake and cookies, even a couple bottles of rum will use it for anti freeze........(ya sure)

Most snows I do 5 close by driveways. Do not do my very elderly nextdoor neighbors, as he has a snowblower and gets a might testy about others presuming he needs help.

Storms, I hit about a dozen, including his.

Only charge for a couple of folks, but I am doing it more for fun and to be neighborly than to make a buck.

This year I was charging three hundred for the season or $30 a plow. a driveway that size I would charge $40. would only take a couple of minutes. this year since we hosted the olympics it only snowed the once so everyone exept my lawyer clients got the year for free. Also anyone over 65 slogging away at it gets cleared as I am driving by:D. I figure i as good client realations. Thus I can write off the tractor at tax time.
