What sort of attachment do I need for clearing brush and vine roots?

If you have a BX25, then I assume you have a backhoe. If some of those roots and vines are too much for the ratchet rake, you could buy a ripper for your backhoe. It's purpose is to rip roots out of the ground without removing much soil, unlike your backhoe bucket. I just bought and installed one but haven't had a chance to put it to work yet on my BX23.

There are hundreds of roots and vines sticking up out of the ground. Certainly too many for backhoe use. I use the backhoe for things like stumps and large roots. I was thinking the other day that I could attach a ripper tooth on the backhoe bucket so I could use both at the same time. I haven't found one yet.

Get a tooth bar and go over the area digging the roots and stumps. You gotta roll them around to get rid of the dirt. Then rake em up using the teeth a little off the ground with bucket at an angle. Backhoe for stumps and such. Level area as best you can and then have fun with the ratchet rake.:thumbsup:

You can do a good job with a loader with a toothbar and a Bushog. A toothbar completely changes what you can do with your loader.

I like the parabolic shape of the ripper, should pull through dirt efficiently.

Jeff had it right, the BXpanded Piranha Toothbar is an amazing upgrade for your FEL, because unlike the rachet rake, which is only good for raking, it can be used to dig, level, rake and pop out the vines and roots. It makes the FEL a much more robust tool, and it was designed specifically for BX's.

Toys are fun so get whatever turns you on. Thirty five years ago I faced the same problem but had a JD 60 with a FEL that dumped by spring loaded catch. Anything that was larger than 2 inches in diameter I cut with a chain saw and/or pulled it out with a 3/8 in long chain. All the rest got rotary mowed with a 6 ft JD Gyro mower. The roots all disappeared eventually and a little mushroom soil on top gave today a great lawn. Just keep mowing it and it will clean itself up faster than you might think, but toys are fun even when you don't need them anymore.
