What TBN use to be like

Good Evenin Robert,
I understand that some people on the forum have a hard time understanding how you could possibly grow friendships without ever meeting the person that your talking to..... but over time you can get a real feel for the type of person whose posts you read on a very regular basis !

Through the years you can learn alot just by listening and responding to other forum members. You grow friendships and mutual respect for other members, and you know that these members share some of that common bond that brought us here in the first place.

To be able to share all the knowledge on TBN, is one of things that make this site so valuable...

I think everyone on here should show respect for their fellow members, it doesnt mean you have to agree wit them, but you shouldnt try and crucify someone who doesnt embrace your views...

The fact that Robert held onto those get well cards for the last few years, tells me alot about him without ever having met him !

I have had the good fortune to meet a number of guys on TBN, and I havent been dissapointed once !

I'm coming late to this thread.....and yes, I skipped the previous three pages....but I thought I'd mention a few thoughts. I think I joined about 5 years ago. Not sure if that was the 'good ol' days' or not. And when I joined I was involved in quite a few heated discussions......but that's what it took to finally prove to everyone here that a geared tractor is better than HST.:laughing:

And lest we should get too mired in rose-colored nostalgia, some of you old timers here at TBN have to admit that some of you...okay, us are a bit gruff, grumpy, curt and opinionated. Don't get me wrong, THAT is exactly what I like about you now. But for those that don't know you...okay, us... they could get rubbed the wrong way. Regardless...don't go changin'...TBN just wouldn't be worth coming to without our lovable curmudgeons. :drink:

One last thing, to echo what has been said many times already, regardless of how good the 'good ol' days' seemed, TBN is still top notch and a shining example of what a forum site can be amongst a constellation of vicious and vitriolic web sites.

It is almost a joke around my house that whenever ANYTHING comes up that I need help or advice on that I will inevitably "check with the tractor guys". Now, even when my wife needs to know something she'll ask me to "check with the tractor guys". So in addition to the good example set by the regulars and mods here, this is undeniably the best collection of all around practical knowledge and know-how anywhere on the internet. Period.

As an add-on,folks,I was 18(1970) when I started driving every day,75 miles one way,to finish concrete 12 hrs. a day at a precast step,porch, and other projects concrete company. My point? Gas was 27.9 cents a gal. every day.WHAT would it cost to drive 150 mi. today,every day,in a 20mpg vehicle(1962 Ford Falcon with 170 special engine)? don-ohio ^)

The scary thing to me about TBN is how often I will have a question or concern about something. Then I will start reading TBN and I will find a discussion has popped up about the problem. :confused3: This happens over and over and over. Kinda scary.

I have wondered if TBN was reading my mind but I know that is not possible because of the Foil Hat I wear. Thanks Brin for the hat. :thumbsup::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Well stated...not meaning to pick but it looks like you joined in 2005. Looks like nearly 8 years on TBN...time flies when your having fun!:thumbsup:

I check this forum for info on how to do things, and have bought items from vendors who advertise here. I lurked here for years, finally joining a few years ago. I bought my L3400 in 2010. I probably wouldn't have bought a Kubota, as JD is much closer, but after reading how happy folks were with thier botas, I bought mine. It's been great! I really enjoy this site, I don't bother with the politics much, you can find that anywhere.

I'm kinda confused about this comment. What are friends? Friends are people you share common interests and common values with, and enjoy each other's company. Just because you can't share a beer with them, and that company comes in the form of an internet relationship, what difference does that make. I have relatives and friends that live in other states, and several in another country, if not for internet friendship with them, our connection would be lost.

I think TBN is 15 years old in 2013. :shocked:

Kinda odd but I think of my tractor getting old because it is now 13 years old! :shocked: Hard to believe I have had it that long.....

This is just my opinion, but I think the current state of TBN is this way because members allow it.

For those who want to argue, only see things their way, will not entertain or open themselves to a different view or opinion is a waist of my time. I simply ignore them and if others here would do the same maybe we could get TBN back to the way it was.

After reading post here for several months I joined around 2005. I was able to post more since dial up was a little faster then. Now I can only post when I get a free moment at work. But I read almost daily except on the weekend; I have a lot of projects going...MPD.

I received a lot of great information and enjoyed reading about projects, what you were doing with your tractor, etc., and still do. I just don't allow myself to get caught up in arguments. I have never been involved in one on TBN simply because it is not worth the stress or time. Life is short and I have enough stress without arguing with some arrogant know it all. I would not be friends with them in person and I will not stoke their ego here.


There are only a few on TBN that would fall into this category. Some from when I joined are no longer here and if you don't allow yourself to get pulled in to this type of thread the current ones will change or leave.

I enjoy reading the commits of most members and many I would consider friends even though I have not met them in person. Some here, I know if I had the opportunity of meeting would be great friends. When I see things on the news that are happening in different parts of the country I think about the members living in that area.

You can tell alot about a persons character by how he treats his family, his pets, his tools, and the words he has written.

TBN is still a great site and only the members can make it this way. And only the members can keep it this way.

what is with the posts that come up on very rare occassion from a username, I think Anonymous (no, not the hacker organization.... or maybe?) from December 1969. I imagine it is a username that either Muhammed or the mods can inject where they feel appropriate, but not 100% sure.

Those are posts from before you had to have an account to post. That user has a manually set join date IIRC.

Its this way way because Muhammad allows it mainly.... and I like it better for one, its more active and diversified.I never posted much and then mostly forgot about this place for a few years, Front Porch and Friendly Politics piqued my interest when they were added and then the ''Today's posts'' feature was activated and it renewed my interest in tractor talks. Like a circular back to the egg thing :laughing:

It says 2004 under my name but I was here under another one earlier, my guess would be 2002. I forgot my password and figured what the heck I'll just re-register under a new nick since my old one was so lame...now I am stuck with this one :duh:

I remember most of the posters from that old link and except from Bird and Muhammad none are around anymore I dont think
