What TBN use to be like

You guys in Texas are lucky. There is always someone down there with a project to justify having a get together. The last couple times we tried having a get together locally things didn't work out. We would start planning things then everyone would either not reply to commit or drop out just before. The first few were fun though. Hope to get them going again but I'm so busy in the spring and fall it makes it hard and New York winters is tough to plan get togethers in because you never know when we will get a snow storm.

Just 15 more years and I can retire and travel at will!

anyone remember nickle and 25 cent comic books?

penny,nickle and dime candy?

I gave our 18 year old intern a ride home the other day. He lives across the street from a vacant block. I told him when I was a kid 45 years ago I'd go to the 5 and dime on that block. There was a bakery, a thrift store, the 5 and dime, the pharmacy, a post office in the back of the 5 and dime and sometimes I'd ride my bike down there from my house about 3 miles away....

I had to explain what a 5 and dime was!

I had to tell my boys that the dollar store used to be the dime store.

Wife and I went to the Walgreens the other day and I saw a Heath bar. I used to love those. They wanted .99 for one and it wasn't that big. I couldn't stomach paying .99 for a smaller version of something I used to pay .25 for. So I didn't buy it. Then I tought about it for several days. Then I saw one for .89.......... it was gone before we left the parking lot. I felt like I had to rob my 401K to get that candy bar! :licking:

Good night :D

I remember having an old corner store in the neighboring town that still had penny candy. Would go in and fill up little brown bags with what we wanted. I loved that store. But I was born in 78 so I don't recall too many other items you guys posted. I do know comics now cost almost $4 each and I think their not as thick as they use to be in the early 90's. At least they feel thinner.

I seem to recall 12 cent comics also.

The cheapest I ever paid for a gallon of gas was 29.9 cents per gallon. I remember pulling into a gas station with my buddies and everybody chipped in and we'd buy 65 cents worth of gas.

Robert_in_NY I may have or may not have replied to one of your post. But I'll say thank you for posting this reminder when people cared about another even thought they never layed and eye on them. CB's was mentioned, Ham radio is another example of making friends without see them. It's respect for each others opinion without all the political hate. I am appalled that a few here would enter this conversation of good memories to throw political rocks. That put them in perspective. It's IMHO they should totally ban all politial discussion here. I guess it's still allowed to maintain membership. I remember the days when neighbors where neighbors who watched your kids and you watched thiers. I remember never locking doors. I could forget and leave my wallet in the front seat of the car parked on the street and it would still be there the next day. Cherrish those cards you received. Some of us still beleive there is good in humanity. Take care -robert k.
