Meanwhile, I'd like to know the percentage of scholarships given to students vs. athletes. Collage is more of a business than an education institution. Look up Yale's endowment.
Colleges charge top dollar, giving money to "students" who will make them money. Those who are there to learn, are saddled with high debt, then hope the government (you and me) will bail them out.

A quality education doesn't need/have to cost what it does. And it does for various reasons...

Some schools offering scholarships require the student athlete to choose between receiving athletic, or academic scholarship money. Some have the luxury of doing both academic and athletic, commonly referred to as “stacking”.
My sons university offered him limited funds as an athlete or limited funds as a academic scholar. He had to chose between one or the other.
My daughter went to a school that had stacking and was able to receive both academic and athletic money.
Stacking is more common in larger Universities with bigger financial endowments.
