What the heck are these on my NAA

So what are the oblong things with bolts through them, in one case a bolt is missing? Aren't those flat oblong 'plates' covering the bossed in holes the bolts pass through?

Nope. They're part of the casting.

OK, thanks for correcting my mistake. I obviously thought they were to be removed to then allow the attachment to sit directly against the drilled threads of the boss below. Never too old to learn, until I am.

I may be getting too old to learn, but I keep on tryin. TIG welding for example is kicking my arse!:laughing:

Since they are part of the casting, they provide a flat boss vs a rounded bottom, and the threads are right to the cast boss flat.

way easier to bolt something securely to a flat than a round.
