What the heck is making these holes?

No game camera, but I was thinking of getting one.

Meanwhile, the trip mechanisms Rovet clean again today, but there was one mouse in one of the traps. So, it looks like there isn稚 another critter eating things that are caught in the traps.
Seems a good reason to invest in one!

I am thinking the same, as I am trying to get a view of what is boring holes in the side of my steep hill. My neighbor thinks they are mountain beavers. Whoever they are, they are making it a dangerous mission to tromp around in that area of our property without breaking a leg falling into a hole.

More apt to be "side hill gophers", they look like regular gophers or groundhogs except the legs on the one side are shorter so they can run along the side of the hill and not tip over.:groundhog:

Have you looked in the holes? Do they go more than a few inches?

I've seen a few that do not. Just below the surface, but not very deep. Come to find out Skunks like to dig in after Yellow Jackets. They tear a hole open to raid the nest which isn't usually very deep. But I don't know if either live in your area.

Everybody is required to weigh in on this mystery... so here's my version:

I think those are purposely bored holes by someone in the past, to either run pipes or some sort of stand for a machine or tool. Although its more exciting to imagine that some creature made them is more fun, I'm convinced that they're human made.

Bah humbug! Let's go with Big Foot :)

I believe that you are partially right; the holes were drilled by somebody. My theory though is they did it so that 50 years later, people would speculate about what they are on a not yet invented internet.

Maybe even drilled by Al Gore which would make it a true historic find, indeed.

If there's flies buzzing in and out of the hole, it's a woodchuck.

LOL, was in my shed yesterday and lo and behold, I have some nice 3/4" holes every here and there.

Only in my case I know the source.
This shed floor is re cycled floor 2 x 10 joists and my holes were formerly drilled for electric wire passage in their former life.

These holes are 6in in diameter! It is a very wet area with natural springs coming out of the hill.

Looks to me like carpenter bees. They make perfectly round holes and love old dry wood
