Just filled up the rear tires on my 5083E today with about 70-75% water. The tire says max load at 20psi. Should the pressure be any different with loaded tires, or just fill to what the spec says? I assume you can adjust to whatever traction is needed for a particular job, but for the most part, I will be just using the loader for clearing brush, knocking over some dead trees, and pushing or carrying this stuff to a burn pile for now. Thanks.

Having them filled has little effect on the tire pressure. I suggest you try 12 to 15 PSI and see how that works for you.
Remember, liquid fluids don't compress, air does.

Thanks for the suggestion. That pressure will probably work fine. They support themselves now with virtually no pressure with just water. I may end up letting some of the water out if I don't like the way it performs. I just read something from the Deere sales manual that recommends only 40% on the rears now for better tractor performance and not the 75% previously recommended. Guess we'll see.

I've got a compact tractor, so not a comparable machine...but I've read ag tractors need some slippage for best traction.

As far as I understand, you WANT your level to cover the steel portion of your wheel.

Thought being that everything under this solution wont rust. Correct ?, no air, no rust. Right ?

So once you reach the correct 'level', to cover the steel portion, anything left is ride comfort/ and/or performance level ?

I've never heard about filling to cover the steel wheel area. Most stuff I came up with when I searched suggested a 75% fill. Deere states that liquid ballast is not preferred in rear tires because it greatly increases tire stiffness at lower operating pressures and reduces ride performance. I was going to use steel weights, but it was going to cost about $900 for about 1,000 lbs of wheel weights, and that was aftermarket weights. I'd like to know if there is any truth to covering the wheel in water or not, though.

Do things rust underwater? Yes they do, so I don't know where that came from. Oxygen is disolved in water and will cause rust.

Firestone and Goodyear don't recommend filling tires either or fill to only 40% like Deere. The larger the air chamber the greater flex the tires will have, more liquid equals less of an air chamber. This increases ride comfort and traction. Radial tires seem to see the greatest effect from this change, night and day difference.

Also are your tires tubed or tubless, you need some pressure in a tubless tire or the bead can break loose.

The pressure written on the side of the tire is the max inflation! We are often at half of that for proper inflation.
Proper inflation for ag tires is no different then for any other type of tires on a tractor for drive tires. You should have full contact across the tread surface when the tractor. The bars should be on the ground at the outside of the tire when you have proper inflation.

Many of the newer pumps used at dealers can fill beyond the 75% mark, this is no normally a problem as when you get a flat they often can be repaired once with out having to have a refill.

 Unless you're carrying something VERY heavy on the 3pt hitch, that's plenty of air.

Thanks for the responses. The tires are tubeless and are what came on the tractor Goodyear Duratorque, I think. I'm gonna try it with 75% fill and see what I think. I can go down to 40%, but the extra weight is what I really wanted. Guess I could always do 40% and hang a box blade on the 3 point. When I start using a disc, the water / air pressure combo might be more critical.
