"Too much horsepower" is a heap better than "not enough horsepower". (As long as you're reasonable about it) In the last few years, 60 to 90 HP tractors have seen a resurgence in the used market. A few years back, they were sort of "misfits". Everyone wanted the reliable old 40 and down HP, or BIG HP. Some brands in that power range have nearly doubled in popularity. So. That leaves the 100 and up range as todays real bargain.
Fords, Masseys, Allis's, Olivers, Case, and SOME International Harvesters sell for a song. Deere's don't come cheap in any size or flavor. You can even find implements sized for them at a fair dollar.
A nice 100 HP tractor doesn't have to be run wide open to handle smaller tools, but the ponies are there when you want them.
You mention a cab. There's a break off point where the "modern era" of cabs starts and stops. That's generally the mid-70's. Newer ones will almost always have heat and air conditioning. BEfore that, maybe....maybe not. Also, the sound reduction qualities of a cab made a quantum leap about that time.
I'd look late 70's to early 80's, and NOT with Deere if you're looking for "cheap". Just use caution. Those tractors from that era had a lot of "powershift" type trannies that are just about all old enough to become money pits. Make certain everything is right before breaking open the piggy bank. My personal favorites in that size range are 966/986 IH, 8000/8600 Ford, 4230 Deere ($$$$.$$)
