I am very new and not getting alot of help from those I know.

I have just started clearing my 2 acre lot for home building. I am clearing with an International TD9 track dozer with a root rage attachment. It is obvious that this will not be the finish result. What would be the next step to rid the place of the small tree trunk and roots that the dozer is missing?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I paid a guy with a dozer to clear about 3 acres for me, ranging from saplings to 12" trees, ($200). He wiped it clean so that all I had to do was a little smoothing with my box blade and burn a huge brushpile.

A TD9 dozer is like a D3. Perfect for almost finish grade with a decent operator and a good backblading method. All that's left is touch up with the boxblade and then seed it with grass.

If you can't get close with that small cat then it's not the dozer's fault. Maybe show us a photo of the best work that the dozer can do for you and we can suggest a next step.

Should be almost perfect. I can't run a dozer, but the guy i pay 75 an hour is pure genius on a dozer. The guy leveled 200 cubic yards of fill for me like a master. smooth, perfect, exquisite.

Go back at the stuff you need to get rid of and try again. more seat time is always a good thing!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you have a backhoe the stump holes created may be smaller.

For finish grading dozer back blading is easiest, going forward is a matter of anticipating the dozer pitch and raising or lowering the blade to prevent digging & lifting of the blade.

For a final surface run a drag or a landscape rake in figure 8's around behind a lawnmower or tractor.

Found that by removing the root rake I am able to get a better finish.

The project is coming along.
