What to do with block livestock building?

I would fix it up. Is the hunting going to be for just your family, or are you planning on a hunting lease kind of setup to make money? There are a lot of folks who do masonry work, that could patch that up pretty easy. Put a roof on it, call it the Chicken Ranch:D . Most of the work is already done.

I am with the fix it up guys. It looks like there is room to build a weekend cabin or something similar. Have someone take a look at it that can give you some bids and repair ideas before you commit to tearing it down. I have seen worse converted into storage units. After some minor repair, patching and painting it could look pretty good and be functional as well.

My fil built his garage out of recycled blocks he got from tearing down old buildings like that. If you found the right person, they might remove it for the block.

Thats a good example of piling good money on top of a bad foundation. It isn't designed for much usable, still have a cobble job when its finished and likely not much of what a guy really wants. The dollar value of what is trying to be saved is so minimal, I would be willing to bet money that it would be one of those things about half way thru a guy will catch himself regretting, then you be into it and find it harder than ever to let go. Easy to have more into it then than it would have been to start over and still be stuck with a mess.

If one is thinking of hiring it done consider this, what kind of contractor would want to work on something like that, I know my mason bud wouldnt touch it and someone that likely would,,, well,,, dont pay them up front, ha Why put a 5000$ roof on 200$ worth of used block over a stinky livestock building with no floor?

Let's not forget that everyone on TBN is not a retired engineer, a doctor with spare time on his hands, a dentist with 100's of acres, etc. Some folks get by with what they have at hand. Look's like a workable project. He asked for opinions, and we are offering them.

I agree but here is another way to think of this, 110 acres, worth something, probably an investment of sorts. Would I save 200$ worth of urine and shat soaked block that needed 2000$ of work on my 100 acres? I think value at every turn, had to learn this the hard way more than once. I look around at my friends, the big "savers" don't end up with squat, never build anything that is worth more when they are finished. One of the reasons they work for me instead of the other way around is this line of thinking. I ask one, would you save this? Oh, yes, he can see the possibilities, well I should show a pic of 30 yrs of "saving". Yards just full of stuff they spend a lifetime of collecting cause it was free. If they would have made just a couple value based decisions years ago they would have something to show for it.
I agree, its just an opinion, not trying to PO anyone but I just try to bring some value view for the lack of better words to this discussion.
