What to do with/plant on property?

I am in crep, no mowing required after the second year, but I would think christmas trees might get an ag discount. You could go with native flowers, ground cover and put bees there. Hay is a good bet too find someone who will hay it for a yearly and split some cash with you.

Chad:

I would check with a couple neighbors who are farming in the area. planting Hay or beans ect will work if they are real close; Sounded like you maybe have farm land next to the home so that would be a bonus for you both. ask for a share off there of enough to pay part of the tax bill. You can get some discount on taxes on less than 10 acres it get much more work than it is worth so for a part of the 2 acres u are looking at probably would not be worth worrying about ag taxes...

Other thing could be planting a larger garden though this is a lot of work but provided food and can be rewarding. cover crop is to me a waste of land/money but grass mowing is worse for sure.
other options would be planting sweet corn, pumpkins or indian corn. cash crops or even advertize garden rental plots to neighbors or towns folk...

I vote for the sheep. Before lawnmowers, sheep were the way people took care of their yards. Your land will look like a lawn.

I think your making it to hard for yourself. If it is mowed lawn now it won't go to brush unless you leave it for years.
If it were me I would find a farmer to take it as grass forage. Around here there are lots of farmers cutting small residential pieces in August and Sept. after there main haying and before the corn is ready.

If you can't do that just bushhog the grass your self once or twice a year. It will stay grass.

Thanks to everyone that replied. I do have farm land next to me so the easiest thing may be to see if I can work something out with the farmer...and at least buy me time while I look into the other options.
