We sell the Phoenix Reverse rotation tillers. The 58 inch is $2750 and the 66 inch is $3550 and the 74 inch is $3750. All have the HD #5 driveline PTO and are geardrive and 6 tines per rotor and slip clutch standard. Ken Sweet

Gear drive tillers are only as good as the gears in the box....
There are probably many more chain drive tillers out there than gear drive.
Tillers are expensive, Good tiller more so. Stick to a bigger company, pay more, you'll get a better tiller. Look at the gearbox rating to see what it can handle. See they are all gear drive at some point.
Rhino, Befco, Maschio, all fine.I think deere is built by rhino. Howard Rotavators: excellent.

KK is fine. They cost less, the warrantee is good, if they explode they cost less to replace.
Reverse rotation is typically used for breaking new soil, forward rotation for repeat business.
I have had 3 KK II's. Still have two of them. My first 6' broke apart at the frame. I used it for acres of new ground before planting. In it's first and only season I tilled about 10 acres of ground, twice. Second one is holding up, but has been used less. I also have a 4' cut down to 3' for tilling vegetable rows. It is always used in soft ground and is doing fine. They may be made in the usa, but the gearbox is from.... China. They all leak from the cover from day one because the bolts are not tight.

They have done well, but next time around I will go rhino or maschio.

Does anyone know what USA factory produces gearboxes and geardrive components for Rhino, Befco, Maschio, Landpride, Deere etc ? Ken Sweet

Hey Ken,

I would check with Flailmaster first,
then Boston Gear second as Flailmaster
has a small herd of OEM replacement gearboxes
for a lot mounted and trailed implements.

time to go to bed ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I didn't think they were made in the USA. Thought they were imports from Italy. Yes? No?

Below is a quote from King "Kutter Rep" from a prior posting. I haven't seen him on TBN for a while, I miss his candid input on King Kutter products. Ken Sweet

"I do not know what the increase would be for sure, and as I don't get into the buying of the gearboxes. I honestly don't know of any companies here in the US that are making any agricultural type gearboxes like we use on Rotary Kutters, Finish Mowers, and Tillers. I'm not saying there isn't, but I don't believe any of the major companies like King Kutter, Woods, Bush Hog, Rhino, or Land Pride are using an American built gearbox on pto driven equipment like Rotary Kutters, Tillers, and Finish Mowers. Woods built their own gearbox to use on a 15' batwing mower up until a couple years ago, but they stopped production on that particular model I believe. It was a model that only had three gearboxes on a 15' cutter as opposed to four gearboxes which is the standard today.

I appreciate your interest in King Kutter products. I believe in our product, and feel that you will be pleased with any King Kutter equipment you buy!"
