In the market for a used backhoe attachment for my 3320. Are there specific issues (or general thoughts for that matter) I should look out for related to the 448 or 485 models? Thank you!

Just inspect for leaking cylinders and worn pins and bushings. Make sure if you buy used you get the mounting plates with it. They are about $900 a piece. Good luck.

Its difficult finding a 448 or 485 used. I looked dilligently for a year to find one to put on my 3520. The few that came up had almost new asking price. Eventually found a 47 in the state of Indiana. Deere dealer said it would work on mine and does very nicely. It digs and will easily drag my tractor around if not carefull. The mendment plates did not come with it. Not hard to install, but added to the price, as well as the power beyond. The only advantage I can see over the 47 is the additional reach of the 48. There is plenty of digging power for occasional ditch work and stump removel.. I guess what I'm recommending is not to limit your search to just the 448 or 485, the 48 is the older version and the 47 is the one smaller. Den.

I previously had a 3320 O/S with 447 and now have a Wallenstein on my 3320 Cab. I actually prefer the mounting system and operation of the Wallenstein better than the 447. Specs are pretty much the same, but operations are much smoother.

What would be a fair price for a used 448 backhoe? I found one for $4500 that looks to be in good shape. Also, in addition to the brackets, what else is needed on the tractor?

That seems to be a fair price if in good condition. But a recommendation would be to go to a deer dealer and get an itemized proposel of a complete parts and install to have something to compare to for your tractor. Cab or open station influences the cost. Then you can decide if it is a good price with what will need to be added. The mounting plates and hydraulics or power beyond can substantially add to the cost.

Seriously, if I was considering spending 5k on a backhoe, I would just keep saving and buy a mini excavator. They can often be had, starting around 10k at auction.
