Hi all - been a lurking member for a while & am curious about purchasing new. Do dealers haggle the way auto dealers do, or is it more "the price is the price, and that's it"?

Specifically, probably going to be looking hardest at kubota. It was a tossup between them and mahindra, but after reading the dealer feedback pdf, kubota seems to win out on points.

Here is my experience on a BX 25 4 years ago:
-Dealer had the lowest advertised/phone quoted base price in the area for a 23HP SCUT/FEL, BH package
-Sales team were all salaried not commission paid
-At the dealers during discussion, they stated there was no discount for cash, price same either No Down, No interest credit sale or cash
-We discussed the price some more and I stated I was used to getting a farmers discount, again they did not offer any
-We started talking implements, then they offered a 10% discount if I bought more than 2 implements and put on the credit sale with Kubota Finance
-After about 45 min we finally settled on the tractor and implements to a total price of $25K and signed the deal. They threw in the insurance while writing up the deal, gave me and my wife 2 Kubota hats, 4 coffee mugs and the 3 PT hitch assembly.

Most satisfying financial deal I have ever made on rolling stock. I was prepared as I had looked at several dealers and brands and prices. The JD dealer acted more like a car dealer so I wrote them off early on.

I bought both of the tractors I've owned from the same dealer. The first one was 33 years ago and the new one was 5 years ago. On the '09 Kubota, the dealer added up everything I wanted - FEL, rear blade etc,etc - and asked if I though $XXXX was enough of a discount for me, as a good customer. I didn't ask, there was no haggling - the discount he offered was significant. I was prepared to pay the total so, of course, I was pleased to get a discount.

Just the other day - for insurance purposes - I listed all my implements that I have purchased from this local Kubota dealer - its just a milkshake or two less than 30K. I think the dealer more than recouped the discount he gave me initially on the new tractor.

The dealer I got my Kioti from was the lowest of three. He also came highly recommended from a friend of mine. I specified what I wanted and asked if he wanted my Farmall C in trade, to which he answered 'NO'. Total price was $30,500.oo delivered tax in for a CK27HST with loader and front mount snow blower, he didn't charge me a delivery charge. (He is a good 2 hours south of me.)
I have since bought a tooth bar from him and all the filters. I will be seeing him in the spring for a ballast box and maybe a quick hitch for the 3 point.

It seems a range of 10-20% off msrp is about the norm. I dont think anyone is paying full msrp

Some haggle if it's a straight cash deal. Most offer financing deals (so much down and 0% for xx months, etc) and adjust the selling price accordingly. Time of year is a factor--tractor sales are slow in fall and winter and faster in the spring right before planting in the Midwest. Northern CA is different since hayfields are planted in October and baled in May so you my ffind better deals in spring/summer timeframe.

Find a dealer that has a decent inventory of tractors in the size you're seeking, has a decent service and parts department. Then test drive as much as you can.

Good luck

When I bought my Kubota a few months ago I went to my local dealer who was almost right at MSRP with no room to budge. Following the advice learned here I talked with Barlow's in Kentucky and was at about 15% off MSRP. It was much cheaper for me to buy it out of state and have it delivered. If it was a couple hundred dollars difference I would've keep my money local - but the savings was substantial going with Barlow's.

Just last week I purchased a new Kubota L3301, and a new Kubota 1140 rtv. My local dealer 30 minutes away quoted full msrp. I asked for a buy it now, today cash price, and he answered " Kubota has a cash sale incentive ". ( Note, this same dealer wouldn't budge two years ago either, when I bought my MX5100. ) So, I drive 30 more miles to a dealer I have never met. I purchased both in a matter of 30 minutes when he quoted me prices 20% less and threw in free delivery and loaded tires. Moral, shop around. I will never go back to the closest dealer for so much as a quart of oil. That's 3 new Kubota's at around $60,000 with accessories he has lost out on in two years. Go figure...

Be sure to do your research before hand or get the msrp from the dealer. 14% off is reasonable off the bat most the time. 18% is probably the best off I've seen around here whether on a gator or a larger tractor. The Kubota I recently purchased was about 16% off if I recall correctly, but it's what the dealer quoted to start with and they won't come off anymore.

Also, if you go new and want additional accessories or implements, better to try and get them with the tractor. Will get some discount there versus buying after the fact.
