What to use Carry-All for (other than carry-all)

Maybe I'm missing something, but rather than a carry all, why not just get rear forks? Then, take a reasonably good pallet and make a storage crate on it out of scrap lumber. Customize as needed for what you like to carry. If you want something more permanent, use PVC and/or milk crates and such. (or do a good job with waterproofing the wood).
I don't even use my $200 carryall, why would I get something similar that costs more?

I love all three of those ideas! That is the kind of gold I am talking about.

@John0829 I also need to mount my cheapy clay pigeon thrower to something, might as well make it so I can move it around with the tractor. Thanks for that idea!

I honestly think carryalls are a throwback to a time when tractors didn't have loaders, they were made to carry things with the 3 point because there were no other options. For that purpose they are supremely useful. But for a tractor with a FEL they lose quite a bit of those uses. All of my other 3 point implements have the ability to carry tools. If I want to carry something I will just use my FEL forks and leave my good ballast on the back.

The neat pics that @EdGooding posted could eaily be made to go on a carryall OR my forks. It would be nice to have the option. I mean at this point I don't see a reason to sell it, I could probably only get $100 for it. Probably better to keep it to have the option to carry stuff back there. But until I make something like @EdGooding posted I don't see it getting much usage. Thanks for the replies!

I made a platform using 2x6's (bottom/back) 2x12 (sides) 2x6 (top) using steel angle as a base support for the sides.

I use mine for collecting firewood as well as my FEL bucket. Beacuse both the bucket and the carry-all platform can be lowered to ground level its easier on my back to roll bigger firewood rounds into them. I then raise them to the height of the horzontal splitter so that I can roll the round onto the splitter and not have to pick the large rounds up to get them onto the spliter. The less bending over the happier my back is.

So I made my carry all to do a few things, It carried tools but could also drop them off without unhooking the frame. Originally, I had a winch which would raise up to dump the carry all (moot point when you have a FEL). It has a removable rail that frankly, I don't remember ever taking off...

It also was my counter weight holder.... before I made a dedicated frame for it. It was also the frame that my RoundUp sprayer for the driveway sat on.

My carryall now has 6 wheels under it (sorry no photo) so that when I load it up with firewood, I just drop it off in the basement, drive the tractor away and push the carryall with wood closer to the stairs...

I've been doing a lot of tree removal from my pastures. Need access to a pole saw, chainsaw, gas, oil, chains. I considered a carryall, but ended up adding a platform to my box blade to carry what I need. The box blade is a better counterweight and I need the box blade to maintain my gravel road. So for me, a carryall isn't the tool I need, but using a carryall for spraying, firewood handling, or potentially as a fuel carrier makes sense to me.

I apologize. That was not really directed to you, but in general a question about why one would initially invest in a device that can only do one function, compared to the forks that can do many more. More of a thought for others who may be considering a carry all. As mentioned above, there can be a sizable cost difference.

Like one of EdGooding's pics.......I've found that the Carry-All is handy as a seat at just the right height for my short butt to rest while having a coffee break and some donuts while also using it for the chainsaw, oil, fuel, helmet, gloves, wedges and some rope.....

Cheers,
Mike

I put a removable bench inside and now have what the family calls my "ranch uber." Other uses - transporting: tools, generator (to where it is needed), hauling wood, gravel, bags of concrete, concrete blocks, and whatever I need to take to where I am working.

My Dad had a very handy carry all on a 350 International and we used it a LOT For building fence, picking rocks and all kinds of other stuff while I was growing up on the farm.

HAH! Just what I was thinking. Carry around the family to the picnic spot...or even use it for the picnic!
