Dust was my biggest issue too. My 6 foot Land Pride cutter had square holes in the front of the deck already that where a perfect fit for carriage bolts. I think they are 5/16's, but I don't remember for sure.

I cut the tire and it fit perfectly across the front of the mower. The curve of the tire was perfect for catching all the dust!!!

It's been on there for well over a decade and still working perfectly.

I haven't had much actually get thrown. A few stick out the front but usually they are low and don't go far.
I am trying to control the dust and fine debris it is throwing out the front. It is an odd one. It all comes out the right/front side and normally that wouldn't be such a problem but it comes out then for whatever reason goes straight up between inner side of the tire and ME! Blows right up my right side and into the side of my face and blows right into my right eye.
It is like when you are on a riding mower and the chute is blowing right into the wind and all the clippings are blowing right back into you.

I thought it was just wind at first but I once turned around and looked I could see the dust coining out of the side of the front opening of the cutter and blowing straight up. Really odd.

Maybe a fender?

Eddie, What sized tire did you use that - once cut - spanned 5'? Was it a big 18 wheel truck tire? I want to do the same as you but am unsure how large a tire I need to get? Thanks for the idea, but size would also be a good help. Greg

I dont know what size it was. I just found in on my land and got lucky that it was big enough.

Before I bought the place, people where dumping their garbage here. I had quite a few tires to deal with.

Even a 15" tire with ~ 4" sidewall is going to give you a 72" length.
circumference = π × diameter

It makes little difference if you use one, two or more pieces to cover the front.

Eddie, Thanks for the reply, I'll see what I can find.
IndyJay, Thanks for the mathematical equation and I can easily find a 15" tire. Good to know it'll work.
ArlyA, Thanks to you for helping me think "outside" the box! If to short - dang, just use another! Hah, sometimes what's right in front of me is so hard to see.

Agree with the conveyor belt suggestions. Regular neoprene is not nearly tough enough.
You do know there are 1/8 conveyor belts available out there? I'd suggest sheet rubber (neoprene) with multi ply’s of fabric for strength and durability 3/16 or better yet 1/4 thick. Ply's are your freind!
