Just saw a MS licence plate on a work truck up here this morning - long way from home. Poor guy! :(

Yup, poor fellow must be lost. Several years ago we had a motor home and it had heated mirrors on it with a switch on the dash that said mirror heat. I used to tell my wife that was our northern limit indicator. If I ever had to turn that switch on we had wandered too far north. Never did have to see what that switch reall did.

When all metal parts are dry, I use spray Silicone. Can get it at any Auto Parts Store.
Also, spray all my rubber truck door gaskets. On a car spray the truck gaskets too. In an ice or sleet storm it will keep things from freezing shut.
Nothing worse than to get out of a running car and have the doors freeze shut on you. Works on door locks too.

OK. You guys are going to think I'm totally nuts...
What did my daughter and I do when they canceled school last year because it was so cold and the diesel was gelling in the buses?

We build an igloo of course!

We're always up for an adventure so we slept overnight on one of the warmer nights when it got down to 14 degrees F. With the camping pads and warm sleeping bags, it really wasn't too bad since the floor was elevated in a bubble of warmer air.

To tie this into the topic of this thread... I did make the pile which became our quarry with the snowblower. In addition to the plastic liner which nothing sticks to, I sanded the rust in the chute and waxed it with car wax.

Cheers!

Try Fluid Film. It doesn't freeze and remains super slick. It's also great for plow blades, electrical connections and to keep locks from freezing.

I'm a bit late on this reply, unless you have a heated building to put the snowblower into. Anyway get some "Slip Plate" Graphite Paint from the local ag dealership. The same stuff that is used by farmers in the bottom section of gravity wagons, grain carts and grain trucks.

Or get some thin nylon sheeting and line the chute.

Really though, if you keep the rpm's up to keep the rig at rated speed, it should throw snow whether it is wet and heavy or dry.

I have probably snowblowed 800 feet of snow over the years and have never heard of anyone using anything on the blower to keep the snow from sticking. I just make sure that I clean things off after I am done so that things don't freeze up before my next snowblowing event. Of course our snow is usually dry (temperature below freezing).

Even when it has been wet, I have never experienced any major problem.

I say do nothing.

While silicone may last a bit longer on plastic chutes, it wears off in 10 feet on a metal chute snowblower-useless.

The best thing I've found to date is ski wax--ski wax is temp sensative--use a pink or yellow (warm weather/course, wet snow) rub it inside the chute and on the business side of the of the impeller blades. Then heat it in with a
Propane torch.....lasts quite a while.

The other one that seems OK is Turtle Wax (auto)

I sprayed my Gravely snow plow, when it lost some paint and showed a tad of rust, with a rust inerting product. It turns any iron oxide (rust) to iron sulfide, which is a more slick, hard surface. After doing so, no snow stuck to it.

These products are available from NAPA or any store selling Rustoleum products. Rustoleum's is called Rust Reformer.
