What to use to flush, clean an old hydraulic reservoir and system

In my continuing quest to get our antique hydraulic lift for our jeep working, I want to clean 60 years of stuff from the reservoir, control and pump. Need suggestions for cleaning fluid and flushing process. Suggestions?

clean and push out as much as you can, blow out with compressed air ect. get the cheapest oil with high detergent that you can find IE 10wt motor oil, dextron trans fluid, hyd oil and run the system. If is on a Jeep there cant be much in it, is there? then dump and do over. How do you know if the pump is any good, have you tested it? CJ

I have the lift out of the jeep to check the control valve (ram, reservoir and control valve set underneath the bed at the rear of the jeep). Want to clean everything well while it is in pieces.

I'd do what CJONE said but I'd use diesel for the flush fluid....Mike

Good advice imo, for a small system this should be quick and cheap and should serve your needs well.

I thought about diesel but he wants to run the system with it in and with a small res it would be hard to get it back out. I am also not a fan of actually running the system with diesel either, I will not run a system with it in. I will preflush hydrostat hose systems with diesel then remove as much as I can [almost 100%] before system startup. CJ
