What tools do you keep in your vehicle?

Yeah, I'm looking more along the lines of not repair of the vehicle, but just tools you might need when you are out. I am at the farm quite bit and it is 12 miles from my house. So my tractors sometimes need wrenching on out there sometimes. Things like that.....I have never kept a power tool in the truck.

I put a 5 drawer toolchest in the back of my pickup, under the camper shell backed up against the cab. Too many times I was in one location, and tools in the other.

From memory, socket set, wrench set (SAE and metric), screwdrivers, pipe cutter, MAP gas, torch and soldering equipment, dikes, channel lock pliers, two pipe wrenches, tape, electrical tester, spare fuses, ohmmeter, hack saw, pry bar. Basically as much of a regular tool chest as I can fit in the five drawers plus overhead compartment.

Carrying those tools has saved me countless times. I'm often in rural areas with at least a 30 minute trip to go get something.

Some keep quite a few and then there are those, such as I, who keep very few. Crescent wrench, pair of pliers, and a flat blade screwdriver. MOST IMPORTANTLY - a roll of toilet paper neatly encased in a watertight baggie. I own 80 acres and my tractor NEVER leaves the property. 35+ years living here and never had to return to the shop for additional tools.

If I worked off the property - it would be a completely different story.

I have my electronic tools for work, but since there isn't much you can do on your own vehicle anymore, I have not carried "tools" for a few decades.

A fire extinguisher
A GOOD reliable flashlight
Gloves
Coveralls
Poncho (courtesy of Richie Brothers Auctions)
Tow Strap
Red Flag for long loads
A few Bungie Cords
A medium duty ratchet strap or two
A rope
A shovel to clear unfortunate dead animals off the road
A four foot or so 1/2" Stainless steel hook for pulling stuff rearward in the p/u bed
And lately a telescoping thing that keeps stuff in the p/u bed from moving forward. So you don't need the hook.

I usually hoard fast food napkins, so I don't need the toilet paper. Oh yes, citrus handcleaner.

For everyone that carries mechanic's tools with them...a better question might be "what spare parts do you keep onboard" ?
For me now it's mostly just a serpentine belt...used to carry full tune up parts, universal radiator hose and clamps, wiper blades, bulbs, fuses, tire plug kit etc., etc...

I don’t carry tools to fix my vehicle because the chances of that working are practically none. I carry tools to fix the various other stuff that I run into that’s a pretty common occurrence.

Only a pair of pantyhose for the serpentine. Has the added benefit of personal enjoyment when not called for on the 6.6 Duramax, and look oh so hot, when your done with them.

I’ve heard of the pantyhose hose belt replacement, but I seriously doubt it would actually work. Had anyone actually tried it?

Just googled it and came up with this;

Final Word: It Was a Fact(ish) Now it is a Myth
In the days of V-Belts and deep grooved pulleys, this may have gotten you out of a jam if your mechanic was a short drive away. Modern vehicle痴 with serpentine belts definitely don稚 jive with the pantyhose idea, no matter how romantic it is!

I’d guess if you can drive that far before it overheats with no fan and water pump or the battery depletes it might work. So basically if you could drive that far with no belt than you could drive that far with a pantyhose belt.
