ALL of the above Plus the first aid Kit. I have a nice one I uised to travel with. Forgot it earlier this year and tried to do a little radical work on the right thigh with a chainsaw hours from nowhere. oops. I didnt forget that again! I usually just keep a small toolbox that I take when I commute with the tractor. Dont forget Duct and electrical tape.

I thought shop towels and duct tape WAS a first aid kit. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Depends on the job, I've got a 20mm ammo can bolted to the front bumper. Kinda limits how many wrenches, chains, etc. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I can carry.

You know, it is funny. Back when I bought my first vehicle, a 69 chevy van, my second purchase was a sears craftsman tool set (well, was a gift from dad). The first was a fire extinquisher. Now, 30 years later, many of the initial tools are lost and the tool box sits in the garage. The old van drove it self to the junque yard many years ago. The only "tools" I carry when I travel are a AAA card and a cell phone although every vehicle I own has a fire extinguisher and a set of jumper cables in it. Long gone are the days when your car breaking down meant you either fixed it or walked. Equally gone are the days you stood much of a chance of fixing it /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

As for the tractor. Probably a hammer, a stout screwdriver (more for driving 3pt pins than for turning screws but it serves two jobs this way) and an adjustable wrench. That along with spare 3pt pins and clips will probably handle most of what needs to be done "in the field".

If I were truely working on a farm, I would probably replace the pieces of the tool box and carry a full set of sockets and wrenches and screw drivers and other basic tools in the truck. But to carry on the tractor? The basic hammer / screw driver / wrench would probably sum it up.

You don't need the whole local phone book. Takes up too much room. Just tear out the yellow pages for tractors and tractor supplies and a couple of the pages for medical services and you should be fine. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When I'm out running hay or straw, I always take an automatic pistol. We have a problem with wild dogs here and they like to den around remote fields. I always go on the presumption that they are rabid. I have had them come right up to the tractor so yo don't have to be a good aim.
I think the steady running of the tractor somehow overcomes their shyness and they can become very agressive. I don't like looking at bared teeth 2 feet away, even though I am in an enclosed cab.

I should add that I always keep the pistol behind the seat in a holster with the safety on. No sense in shooting yourself in the butt while bouncing around in the tractor!!

Along with a hammer and the basics (adj. wrench, pliers, etc.) I take a set of (cheap) punches to punch out stuck shear pins, bolts, etc. Also, I have a zip-lock bag with ear plugs, dust masks, extra gloves, sun screen, insect repellant. I consider these 'tools' when I operate equipment. Many of my 'carry with' tools are of the 'planter' variety: cheap enough to plant when (not if) they fall out of my pocket or off the tractor. I save the good stuff for the shop and pickup tool boxes.
