Hi all. This looks like a great site.

I'm hoping to get a little assistance. A few months ago I bought a used Chinese tractor. I know very little about it. I'm not even sure what manufacturer it is. It seems to have a lot of similarities to Jinmas. It has emblems on it that say Workhorse 30. The owners manual says Hunan HN304. It looks like this tractor http://shahe-trade.en.alibaba.com/product/50016601/50065209/Tractor/Tractor.html

So that I know where to look for info does anyone know exactly what I bought? I am wanting to do some maintenance but need info first.

According to the manual the transmission and hydraulics use the same fluid is this correct? most of the Jinmas I am reading about on here don't seem to use the same fluid.

Assuming mines uses the same fluid for both why is there a dipstick near my feet and then a fill cap back above the PTO?

Also My manual says the engine takes 4kg of engine oil and 14kg of trans fluid. What is that in quarts?

I would really appreciate any help. I know newbies are no fun. I have searched the site, but I am just not finding the info I need.

I belive a kg of water is one liter or a bit more than a quart. Since oil floats, (takes more to make a kg by volume than H2O).

Put 3/4 of reccomended and start watching dip sticks. Never run an engine over filled with motor oil.

Welcome,

Patrick

Kg Kilogram) would be weight. Lt (liter) should be volume.
I making a guess that it should be Lt not Kg.
4 Lt = 4.23 Quarts.
14 Lt = 14.8 Quarts.

I doesn't look like a Jinma, with yet another hood, to me. It does have some similiarities, such as the fenders. It has a right hand side steering cyl and a more open floor area, which I have never seen on a Jinma.

???: Does the emblem on the hood (center) look like the Tractor Supply Company (TSC) to anyone else?

I did hear that Tractor Supply tried to sell tractors in the past. This tractor was also sold at one time as a Taskmaster, but I do not know why Mr. Powell switched away from it. Could be the factory was bought out or closed, but yet it is still listed on alibaba. Interesting....

Some Chinese tractors do use transmission oil for hydraulic system.

I'd be courious what engine is in that tractor and year of manufacture if you can find some labels?

The manual says that the motor is model N385. Displacement is 1.617 liters and it is a 3 cylinder. I can look later this afternoon for other numbers on it.

The reason I said it seems to share the hydraulic fluid is in the manual under transmission fluid change it says "The fluid in the transmission case is also used for the hydraulic system and power steering system." I just would have figured that gear lube would have been better in the trany.

I had to adjust the PTO clutch and it seems to be the same as a Jinma except that the access hole looks smaller than the pictures I had for reference.

Would additional pictures help? I should have researched it more I guess, but I thought I got a pretty descent deal. The tractor had 308 hours on it, has a FEL, a rear blade, and I added a brand new snow blower for $6500. It seems to run pretty good, just needs some maintanence and has some hydraulic leaks.

The engine may be the same or very similiar as the Jinma Y385 but would need pictures of both sides of the engine to compare. The chinese usually label the engine, first number is the number of cyl, the rest of the digits give the bore in mm. Problem is, you can have two completely differnt engines be labeled a 385.

I believe many older yanmers and older US tractor's sharred the transmission with the hyd sump. You do have to use the dual use oil. Gear oil would be too thick for hyd use. Probably a good idea to check the hyd screen and replace the filter on a regular basis.

It does remind me more of a Lenar, but I'm no expert in identifing all the different chinese tractors out there.

Update: If your total displacement is correct, it is probably a different engine than the common Yangdong Y385 used in Jinma and other chinese tractors. The Y385 has a displacement of 1.53 liters. Yours would have a longer stroke to get 1.6 liters.

What oil would you recomend as a good dual use oil?

I do not know the year of manufacture, however, according to the paperwork it was originally purchased in 1999. The manual was written in 1995. The bore and stroke are 85x95 mm.

Also noticed the manuals say Heng Yang Tractor Factory.

Thank you for all of the help so far.

Many antique and modern tractors used shared sumps for hyds, tranny and diffy.

I know my old fords, my yanmar, and my ex NH 1920 use/used shared sumps and UTF fluid.

I usually just call it 303 fluid, but that's really just the spec number John Deere uses for that dual purpose stuff. I used it in my Yanmar. Most farm supply stores nowadays sell it labeled as UTF (Universal Tractor Fluid).
