Howdy...

Well I need some opinions. I have around 6 acres to maintain. I own a Kubota 3830 with loader and 72" bushhog. But I need to mow around 1.5 acres of the property with a finish type mower (the rest will be bush hogged). I am uncertain what kind of machine to purchase to do my "yard mowing". It most likely will be used. Also I need to be able to change directions quickly and be very manuverable. So hydro is the only way to go. I have considered buying a old John Deere garden tractor and reworking it. But then I thought about buying a used small Kubota. Can anyone give me some advice on what to get. I would prefer spending $4000.00 or less. Thanks for the help. And Merry Christmas!

If your looking for a Kubota . Watch for a B7100 HST. They are a proven tractor and were built from the early 80's until late 90's. Finding one for $4000 may be tough.
You can't go wrong with a JD lawn tractor. The ones sold at Home Depot all fall under $4000 and you get a warranty.
Searching on Ebay for LAWN TRACTOR brings up lots of tractors within $4000. Here is a JD 332. I picked this one because it has a DIESEL engine. Click Here.

If you want a grass cutter. Don't buy a tractor. You can buy a used zero turn lazer z by lexmark for $4,ooo.oo. The best and fastest way to cut grass. Nice clean cut. Will cut your time in 1/2.
I have a ZD28 and had a LaserZ before I bought a new Kubota. You can get a 72 in deck with gator blades and cut the clippings into nothing in no time. Will take a little time to learn to use but you will love it.

With a budget of $4,000, I agree with the idea of a new ZTR. I paid less than $3,000 for a new Toro with a Briggs engine and 38" cut. If you want diesel or wider cut, you'll have to go a little higher on the price.

I'm going to agree with the posts that say ZTR; but only if you have a very smooth 1.5 acres that you are cutting. I've given away a couple as gifts to senior managers at work, for $4000 you can get a new Cub Cadet ZTR or new Toro TZR with a warranty. They are not the heaviest duty units, like Scags Dixons, Dixie Chopper, etc, but the Cubs and Toros should last a homeowner for a decade or more, they will cut faster than a tractor and most do a very good job of mowing. If your lawn is bumpy a ZTR will rattle the fillings out of your teeth and then you might want to stick with a small tractor, a used 7100 would be a great choice.
